Description

JLJ. STANGER. ELECTRIC BATH.
No. 590,171. Patented Sept, 14,18'9'7.
Fig.1.
UNITED STATES PATENT O FICE.
JOHANN JAKOB STANGER, OF STUTTGART, GERMANY.
ELECTRIC BATH.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 590,171, dated September 14, 1897.
Application filed March 6 1897.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, J OHANNJ AKOB STANGER, of Stuttgart, Kingdom of Wiirtemberg, Germany, have invented a certain new and useful Improved Electric Tanbark-Bath, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact de-' scription.
Hitherto inferior tan solutions or extracts have been employed for tanbark-baths, owing to the expensive nature of pure tan solutions.
Baths made from inferior solutions do not possess the same healing effect as a concentrated tanbark-bath would have; and the object of the present invention is to produce a comparatively pure tanbark-loath at a small cost.
In order to render the present specification more easily intelligible, reference is had to the accompanying drawings, in which similar letters of reference denote similar parts throughout both Views.
Figure 1 is a longitudinal section through the bath, and Fig. 2 a plan view of the same.
The bath a is advantageously made of wood and shaped as shown in the drawings. The outlet 1) is provided with a plug 1) in the usual manner, said outlet-pipe being taken direct to the tan-yard or tan-works. At each side of the bath wooden racks c c are arranged,
which should be detachable in order to facilitate cleaning the bath. To the racks c are fastened theelectric conductors or electrodes cl, which are connected to the main conductors by means of clamping-screws, as at 6. Suitable resistance devices (not shown in the drawings) maybe arranged in the conductors, by means of which the power of the electric current may be regulated at will. Bars of Serial No. 626,818. (No model.)
wood or a frame f may be arranged on the bath, which bars or frame may then be covered with a cloth, so as to partially inclose the person bathing. I
The bath is filled with tanbark solution and the electric current allowed to pass through the same. As soon as the bath is done with the plug 12' is raised and the tanbark solution allowed to flow off to the tan-yard, where it is employed for tanning skins and hides in the usual manner.
By arranging a tanbark-bath system in connection with a tan-yard the cost of the bath is practically reduced to nothing, since the tan solution is not wasted, being just as applicable for tanning purposes after the bath as before the same. Thus tanbark-baths are rendered accessible to the poorer class of patient.
By employing the electric current in connection with the baths the healing power of the same will be enhanced. The electrodes may both be arranged within the solution or one be placed in the bath and the other applied directly to the body of the patient.
I claim as my invention- The combination of a bath at having outlet Z), wooden racks 0 arranged one at each side of said bath, electric connections to said racks and bars or frame f arranged over said bath, a clothto cover said bars in the manner and for the purpose substantially as described.
In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand in presence of two witnesses.
