NURSERY CHAIR. No. 588,707. Patented-Aug. 24, 1897.
liweufofl f Mw UNITE STATES PATENT. OFFICE.
ELMINA R. SLEEPER, OF SOUTHORAN GE, NEW JERSEY.
NURSERY-CHAIR.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 588,707, dated August 24, 1897. Application filed December 20,1895. Renewed J ly 15, 1897. Serial No. 644,729. (No model.)
citizen of the United States, and aresident of South Orange, in the county of Essex and State of New Jersey, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Nursery-Chairs, of
which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to nursery-chairs; and
it consists in certain novel parts and combinations of parts particularly pointed out in the claims concluding this specification.
In the accompanying drawings I have shown my invention embodied in the form which is at present preferred by me; but it will be understood that various modifications and changes may be made in the construction without departing from the spirit of my invention and without exceeding the scope of my claims.
Referring to the drawings, Figure l is a longitudinal section through a nursery-chair with my invention applied thereto. Fig. 2 is a front detail View of the urinal-tube shown in Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a top view of the same on an enlarged scale.
The following is a description of the accompanyin g drawings:
1 is a nursery-chair of ordinary construction. On the front part of the cut-away seat is attached a urinal-tube 4:, made of flexible materialsuch, for example, as vulcanized soft rubberin whole or in part. per end this tube is preferably enlarged and curved, as at 5. As shown, the tube, at its upper end, is provided with an inwardly-projecting hood, which extends above the surface of the seat and over the opening therein.
6 is a clip or other suitable contrivance at-- At the upof the tube.
neras, for example, by screws shown-by which the tube 4 5 is removably attached to the chair, permitting said tube to be rotated in the clip, as well as to be removed for renewal or cleansing.
The object of the device is to prevent male infants soiling their clothing or the chair.
' The device is readily attached to any ordinary nursery-chair by cutting a U -shaped notch in the front part of the seat, of size large enough to admit the clip or loop of wire which serves as a holder. The tube being inserted in this, the device is ready for use. Before seating the infantthe tube should be reversed, so that the mouth part shall be turned outward, which leaves the opening in the chair unobstructed. After the infant is seated the tube should be turned back again to the position shown in the drawings and the mouth part properly adjusted "to serve the purposes for which the contrivance is designed.
What I claim is- 1'. The combination with a nursery-chair of a urinal-tube extending above the seat of the chair provided with a hood projecting over the opening in the chair, said tube being reversible, so as to leave said opening unobstructed, substantially as described.
2. The combination witha nursery-chair of a urinal tube attached thereto extending above the seat of, and over the opening in the chair, provided with a hood projecting inwardly over and beyond the opposite portion ELMINA R. SLEEPER.
