IMPROVEMENT IN VALVES FOR STEAM-ENGINES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 58,796, dated'October 16, 1866.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, RICHARD P. Es'rnr, of Cincinnati, Hamilton county, Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Steam-En gine Valves 5 and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and eX- act description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, making part of this specification.
My invention relates to steam-engine valves of the oscillating description, and consists in sc arran ging the ports and faces of the valve and the ports and faces of the valve-casing that the valve is nearly balanced in all positions, and, being slightly conical and provided With elastic adjustment, can be operated with the least possible amount of friction under varying temperatures.

A B are the valve-chambers, provided with diametrioally-opposite steam-ports C C' D D', for the admission of steam into the interior of the chamber on opposing sides.

It will be seen that the entire valve-movement is readily accessible by simply unbolting either head of the valve-chamber.
I claim herein as new and of my invention- The bala-need, yielding, and adjustable threewinged valves K L, one or both, arranged and operating in the manner substantially as described.
