ICE-CREAM DISHER.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 586,807, dated July 20, 189'?. Application filed March 29, 1897. Serial No. 629,753. (No model.)

To all whom, it may concern,.-

Be it known that we, JAMES E. CREA and WILLIAM ll. CREA, citizens of the United States of America, residing at Allegheny, in the county of Allegheny and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Ice-Cream Dishers, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawings.

This invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in dishers and molds, and has for its object to construct a disher particularly adapted for use in dipping icecream and like substances that may be conveniently and easily operated with one hand, thus permitting the operator to have the free use of the other hand in manipulating the dishes; and to this end the invention consists in the novel construction, combination, and arrangement of parts to be hereinafter more specifically described, and particularly pointed out in the claim.

In describing the invention in detail reference is had to the accompanying drawings, forming apart of this specification and wherein like letters of reference indicate similar parts throughout the several views,in which- Figure l is a perspective view of our improved disher and mold. Fig. 2 is a top plan view showing operation in dotted lines. Fig. 3 is a longitudinal sectional view of the removable portion of the handle, showing lever and spring in dotted lines. Fig. 4 is an underneath plan view of the scraper or knives. Eig. 5 is a top plan view of the operating-lever. Eig. 6 is a vertical sectional view of the mold and scraper.

Referring now to the drawings by referenceletters, a indicates the mold, which has formed integral therewith aportion b of the handle, 'formed seniicircular in its general Outline to receive the operating-lever c, the outer end of which is supported by a wall d, formed in the portion b of the handle, and the inner end of said lever being bent upwardly and outwardly over the apex of the mold a, where it is provided with an aperture e to receive a pin f, formed on the plate g, carrying the cutters h, said plate being journaled in the apex of the said mold by a rivet or pin lo.

The operating-leveris provided with abushing l, and secured on said lever between this bushing and the wall d is a coil-spring m, adapted to retract the cutters after they have been operated, said lever being operated by means of a finger-catch n, formed integral therewith and operati ng through a slot formed in the portion b of the handle and in the upper portion b of the handle, said upper portion b being' adapted to iit on the portion Z) and being formed with a cap end, which engages t-he apex of the mold, said portion b being secured to the mold a and to the portion h of the handle by screw 0 or other suitable means, the said portion h being also provided with a wall d@ resting on the wall d, these two walls thus forming a journal for the operatnglever. The inner end of this operating-lever is slightly curved to conform to the movement of the cutters, and in the apex of the mold is provided a curved slot p to permit the operation of the pin f, carried bythe plate on which the cutters are provided.

As the lever is actuated by means of the fingencatch it turns the cutters through the connections of the said lever therewith by means of the pin and plate, causing the cutters to turn within the mold and loosen the cream from the inner face of the said mold, permitting the same to fall into the saucer or plate provided therefor, and as the pressure on the finger-catch is released the cutters are returned to their normal position by the action of the spring on the operating-lever. As four of the cutting-blades are provided, it will be observed that only about one quarteihturn of the blades will be -required in order to loosen the substance from the entire periphery of the mold, and it will also be noted that as many of these cutting-blades may be provided as desired; also, that by this construction the entire mechanism controlling and actuating the cutters is concealed in such a manner as to prevent the substance upon which the disher is being' employed from coming in contact therewith.

lt Will be noted, further, that various changes may be made in the details of construction without departing from the general spirit of our invention.

Having fully described our invention, what we claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
