UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
MAX BAUER, OF JERSEY CITY, NElV JERSEY.
PHOTQGRAPHIC CAMERA.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters ZPatent No. 583,836, dated June 1, 1897.
Application filed December 31,1896. Serial No. 617,601. (No model.)
To CI/ZZ whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, MAX BAUER, a citizen of Germany, residing at Jersey City, in the county of Hudson and State of New Jersey, have invented new and useful Improvements in Photographic Cameras, of which the following is a specification.
The object of this invention is to increase the capacity of photographic cameras for taking diversified views or to. increase the adjustability of the camera; and the invention resides in the novel features of construction set forth in the following specification and claim and illustrated in the annexed drawings, in which- Figure 1 is a plan View of the camera. Fig. 2 1s a section along line cc :0, Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a detail plan view of the camera back-sectioned along line y 3 Fig. 2. Fig. 4 is a view like Fig. 3 with parts in a different position than in Fig. 3. Fig. 5 is a section along line 2 2, Fig. 2. Fig. 6 is a view like Fig. 5 with parts in a different position than in Fig. 5.
The base 1 has the front frame or camera front 2 and the back frame or camera-back 3, with the bellows 4, the back and front being adjustable toward and from one another. The back is carried by the support 5, the side pieces 6 rising from the support and having the pivots '7, supporting the back, so that the latter can be angularly adjusted about a horizontal axis. The tongue 8, depending from back 3, plays in a slot in support 5 and can be clamped by screw 9 when the back has been suitably adjusted about the horizontal axis. The movability of the support 5 along the guide or way 1Q. in base 1 enables the back 3 to be set toward and from the front 2. These parts being well known need no detail description.
The support 5 has a screw 11 with head or plate 12 running in the way 10, and when the back 3 has been adjusted toward or from thefront the handle 13, when properly swung,
will cause screw 11 to clamp its head 12 against the side plates of the way 10 to prevent movement of the support 5 along way 10.
In addition to the adjustment about the horizontal axis 7 the back 3 can be angularly adjusted about the vertical axis formed by the pivot or screw 11. The back 3 orits support 5 has a pin or lock 14, which when engaging into way 10, Figs. 2, 3, and 5, will prevent the back turning about the vertical axis, or, in other words, will hold the horizontal edges of the back parallel to the horizontal edges of the front. hen, however, the lock 14 is moved out of way 10, Figs. 4 and 6, the back can be angularly adjusted about the vertical axis to bring the horizontal edges of the back out of parallelism with the horizontal edges of the front.
The lock 14 is normally pressed by spring 15 to locking position and can be moved to unlocking position by slide 16, having near one end a handle or exposed button 17, the other endportion of the slide 16 being inclined, so that when the slide is pushed toward the lock 14 or its spring 15 said slide will lift or move the lock to releasing position.
WVhat I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The combination with a photographic camera having a base provided with a way, of an angularly adjustable back movable along the way and provided with a vertical springpressed locking-pin for engaging a part of the way, and a slide having an incline at one end constructed to pass under and raise the locking-pin from the way when said slide is moved toward said pin, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
