ATENT much;
HARVESTER-SWATH ER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 579,322, dated March 23, 1897.
Application filed August 19, 1895. Serial No. 559,729. (No model.)
T at"! whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, LEMUEL FRITTS, a citizen of the United States, residing at Sunnyside, in the county of Hunterdon and State of New Jersey, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Harvesting-Swathers, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompan yin g drawings.
My invention is a swathing device to be attached to harvester machines or binders, and in its essential features is a moldboard of sheet material so adjusted upon the inclined de1ivery-board of the said binder that it will rotate the bundle or loose grain, as it maybe, and throw the same off at the side of the machine into a swath.
I will explain my device with the aid of the accompanying drawings, and then define the substance of my claim. I
Figure 1 shows a delivery-board with my invention thereto attached. Fig. 2 is a vertical section of the invention. Fig. 3 is an enlarged View of the bracket by which I adjust and support my swathing-board, and Fig. 4.- is a vertical section of the bracket. Fig. 5 shows the swather as attached to a side-delivery harvester of familiar type.
In all of the figures the same numeral rep resents the same part.
1 is the delivery-board, with side plate 2 and a swather 3 attached to it at edges 4 and 5. The swather 3 is essentially a moldboard of thin metal plate, preferably galvanized iron, and is supported in its peculiar shape by means of a bracket 6, having flanges 7 with slot 8, through which said bracket is attached to the delivery-board by means of bolt 9. Similar slots 11 in the flanges 12 of the bracket permit the fastening of the swather-plate to the bracket also by means of bolts. permit variable adjustment to conform to the desired curve contour of the swather-plate 3, as the sliding in and out of the bracket 6 will raise and lower the swath er proper and change its conformation.
In the operation of my device the bundles or gavels are deflected to the side of the machine by the swather-board and thus formed into windrows or swaths.
Having described my machine, what I desire to claim in my Letters Patent is- In combination with the inclined deliveryboard of a harvester, a moldboard 3 secured thereto, a supporting-bracket therefor, said bracket having slots 8 and 11 and bolts adapted to enter said slots and engage the delivery-board and the moldboard, in the manner and substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
LEMUEL FRIT'llS.
\Vitnesses L. B. BAKER, J. K. HOFFMAN.
