SHIPS BUOY.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 578,342, dated March 9, 1897.

Application filed August 17, 1896.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known thatI, CARL LANGE, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Marshall, in the county of Lyon and State of Minnesota, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Ships Buoys, of which the following is a description.

Referring to the drawings by numeral, 1 indicates the planking of the deck of a vessel. Suitably secured to said deck are seats 2 2, adapted to conform to the shape of the buoy 3 and to receive and hold it in position on the deck.

The buoy 3 is formed of any desirable ma- With a cover4 of ordinary constructionflined with rubber packing 5 and adapted to be held in position in the buoy by means of a curved clamp 17, secured to the buoy at one end by a hinge 6, said clamp having a lip 7, provided with an eye 8, and adapted to register with an eye 9 in a lip 10, also secured to the buoy. The eyes in the respective lips are intended to serve as means by which a locking device may be applied to the clamp, which is shown in this instance to be a screw-threaded pin 11, although, as is obvious, a padlockor other means may be employed without departing from the spirit of my invention.

Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim, and desire .to secure by Letters Patent, is-' A buoy comprising an air-tight receptacle provided with a cover 4, lined With rubber packing, adapted to be held in position by means of a curved hinged clalnp secured to the buoy at one end by means of a hinge, said clamp being provided with a lip having an eye adapted to register with an eye 9 and lip 10 secured to the buoy for locking said cover, pins projecting from the bottom of said buoy adapted to iit in corresponding recesses in the buoy-seat, and means for connecting the buoy to the vessel comprising a reel and cable, said cable being attached to the buoy by means of an eye 13, substantially as described.
