W.-- L. ANDERSON. VAPOR BATH GABINET. 7
No; 577,407. Patented Feb. .23, 1897.

UNITED STATES ATENT OFFICE.
WILLIAM L. ANDERSON, OF PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA, ASSIGNOR TO L. O. ANDERSON AND CHARLES SOHAAL, OF SAME PLACE.
VAPOR-BATH CABINET.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 577,407, dated February 23, 1897.
Application filed May 29,1896. Serial No. 693,542 (No model.)
T0 at whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, WILLIAM L. ANDERSON, a citizen of the United States, residing in the city and county of Philadelphia, State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Vapor-Bath Cabinets, which improvement is fully set forth in the following specification and accompanying drawings.
My invention consists of anovel vapor-bath cabinet composed of the parts as hereinafter described.
Figure 1 represents a perspective view of a portion of a vapor-bath cabinet embodying my invention, the covering of the same being shown in vertical and horizontal sections. Fig. 2 represents a vertical section of a portion on line 00 00, Fig. 1. Fig. 3 represents a perspective view of a portion of one of the frames of the cabinet. Fig. 4 represents a top view of the portion occupied by the neck of the patient. Fig. 5 represents a bottom plan view of the fastening device of the top opening of the cover. Fig. 6 represents a perspective view of the cabinet on a reduced scale.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in the several figures.
Referring to the drawings, A and B designate the upper and lower frames, respectively, of the cabinet, and O designates a cover of flexible material attached thereto, the same extending over the top of the upper frame, so that the vapor as generated within the cabinet will be retained therein by said cover.
D designates legs or stretchers, which are hinged at their upper ends to the frame A and adapted at their lower ends to enter and be retained by notches E in the lower frame B, by which provision the upper frame will be held in elevated position and the cover accordingly distended, as shown in Fig. 6.
In the top of the cover is an opening which is occupied by the slitted or separated collar F, to receive the neck of the patient, and a slit G, which communicates with the same, so
as to provide means for passing the head of the patient through said collar, after which the collar is closed and the slit covered by the flap H, which is attached to either wall of said slit, the walls having on their under side the pins J, around which the lacing Kmay be passed, so that the patient may close the slit from within and thus prevent the escape of the vapor.
It will be noticed that the bottom of the cabinet is open, so that it can be readily passed over the patient, a vapor-generator being placed on the floor beneath the cabinet and the latter then rested on the floor. The patient then adjusts his head through the top, and the collar and the slits in the latter and in said top are properly closed from within, as has been described.
WVhen service of the cabinet is not required, the legs D are removed from the notches E and folded against the upper frame A. The bottom frame is also placed against said upper frame, the sides of the cover forming folds, so that the device is in compact condition for carrying, storing, &c.
In Fig. 2 the frame B and the flexible cover 0 are omitted for the sake of clearness in said figure.
The top of the cover may be inclined upwardly, so as to uniformly direct the vapors toward the patient.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
A vapor-bath cabinet, having upper and lower frames, legs at its opposite ends hinged to one of said frames and having their other ends seated in recesses inthe other frame, a flexible covering having an opening in its top with a slit extending therefrom, a slitted collar in said opening, and means, for closing said slit and collar.
