FILLING DEVICE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 575,172, dated January 12, 1897. Application filed February 8,1896. Serial No. 578,586. (No model.)
To (all whom, it may concern Be it known that I, FRITZ ROSSBACH-ROUS- SET, a subject of the German Emperor,'resid- :ing at Tempelhof, near Berlin, Germany, have invented new and. useful Improvements in Filling Devices, of which the following is a full and clear specification.
My invention relates to an apparatus for filling up with liquids a series of receptacles; and the object of my invention is to provide means by which the degree of filling for each receptacle is automaticallycontrolled by the material to be filled up, and the said receptacles are automatically filled each after another. I attain this object by the apparatus represented in the accompanying drawings, of which-- Figures 1 and 2 are vertical sections thereof in two different working conditions, respectively.
My apparatus consists of a series of channels or gutters G G G G pivoted at lVlW W W, respectively, between a pair of frameplates '1. Stop-pins A A A A are provided to bear against the channels G to G in their position indicated, Fig. 1, in which they are kept by float-gages S S S S, connected to the respective channels by chains K K K K and other stop-pins R R R R serve for supporting the respective channels in their lowered position, as indicated, Fig. 2,with reference to the first and second left-h and channels G and G into which they descend by gravity when the float-gages are raised, as hereinafter described. The pivots of the said channels are arranged in an inclined line, and the channels are slightly tapered to the right. By these means as the several channels are swung down, Fig. 2, they will form a continuous gutter, consisting, respectively, of two three, or four channels.
B B 13 B are the receptacles to be filled up and placed beneath the several channels in such relative position to the latter that each channel in its raised position, Fig. 1, will discharge its contents by its left-hand end into the receptacle appertaining to this channel; but when a channel has been swung down into its lowered position, Fig. 2, the right-hand end of this channel will discharge its contents into the next channel, and if the latter is in its raised position, as, for instance, the third channel of Fig. 2, its contents is delivered to the receptacle appertaining to this channel; but when the said next channel is likewise in its lowered position, as, for instance, the second channel in Fig. 2, the material F passes over the receptacle appertaining to this channel and is delivered to the following receptacle, the channel of which is in its raised position.
From the foregoing it will be clear that the working of my apparatus is as follows: At the beginning of the filling process the several receptacles B l3 B B are empty and the channels G G G G in their raised position, Fig. 1 as the floatgages occupy their lowermost position. The cock of the supply-pipe Z is then opened, and the liquid F is discharged into channel G and by its left-hand end into the receptacle B. In the measure as the latter is filled the float-gage S rises and channel G is successively lowered by gravity until it finally reaches the position represented, Fig. 2, and the liquid F is discharged by the right hand end of the channel. As the second channel G is still raised, the liquid F is delivered to the channel G and by its left-hand end to the receptacle B channels G and G being respectively in the relative position of channels G and G of Fig. 2. 111 the measure as now receptacle B is filled up the float-gage S rises and channel G is successively lowered until it finally reaches the position of Fig. 2. From this figure it will be clear that the liquid F then passes over the receptacles B B through the combined channel GG and is discharged by channel G into receptacle B until the latter is likewise filled and channel G occupies its lowered position, and so on.
It is to be observed that by lengthening or shortening the chains K K K K the degree of filling of the several receptacles can he varied at will.
Having fully described the nature of my in vention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. A device for automatically filling a series of receptacles, consisting of a frame, a series of channels or gutters pivoted to the frame and provided each with a float-gage at one end, and a series of receptacles placed beneath the several channels and containing ries of receptacles placed beneath the said channels and containing each the float-gage of the corresponding channel, substantially as and for the purpose described.
