SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 573,985, dated December 29, 1896.

Be it known that LALFRED RUDOLPH K UNZ, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Brooklyn, county of Kings, and State of New York,have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Brackets, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part thereof, in which similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.

This invention relates to brackets and similar supports; and the object thereof is to provide an improved bracket which is adapted to be used in connection with or adjacent to a gas-burner or a gas-fixture and which is designed for use in supporting any desired form of vessel which it is desired to heat by means of a gas-burner.

The invention is fully disclosed in the following specification, of which the accompanying drawings form' a part, in which Figure 1 is a perspective view of my improved bracket; Fig. 2, a back view thereof; Fig. 3, a central vertical section on the line 3 3 of Fig. 2, part being broken away; and Fig. 4., a transverse section on the line 4 4 of Fig. 3.

In the drawings forming part of this specification, Arepresents an ordinary gas fixture or bracket, which is provided with an ordinary burner tip or tube a, and in the practice of my invention I provide a bracket consisting of a plate B, which is adapted to be secured to a wall or other support by means of screws b, which pass through holes b formed therein. Said bracket is also provided with a vertical slot or openin g 6 which is adapted to receive a plate (3, and formed on the front side of said bracket are loops or keepers D, said loops or keepers being preferably arranged near the upper and lower ends of the slot or opening 19 and over the same. The plate 0 is to be inserted in the back part of slots 19 to prevent lateral movement of the hinged bolt K. I also provide a bracket-arm G, which is angular in cross-section'or provided at each side with depending flanges g, and formed in the end thereof adjacent to the bracket-plate is a notch or recessg and I also provide a hinged bolt K, which is providedwith a forwardlydirected plate or projection 7o,and at the upper side of which, adjacent to the hinged bolt K, is a transverse shoulder or projection and in connecting the bracket-arm G therewith the said transverse shoulder or projection 10 is placed in the transverse notch or recess g in the bracket-arm, and the plate or shoulder it rests between the flanges g of the arm, as clearly shown in Fig. 4.

The outer end of the bracket-arm G is provided with a head L,having an opening formed therein, and said head and said opening may be of any desired shape, and said head is adapted to support a small kettle, cup, or other device which is adapted to hold the article or articles to be heated, and the arm G is adapted to be swung over the burner tube or tip a, and the operation will be readily understood when taken in connection with the foregoing description.

It will be understood that the connection of the arm G with the bracket-plate constitutes a hinge, and said arm is free to swingin any desired direction, and the arm G, which is placed in the vertical bolt K in the bracket plate 13, holds the hinged bolt in position and strengthens the device.

This device is simple in construction and. operation and perfectly adapted to accomplish the results for which it is intended,while being also comparatively inexpensive; and it is evident that changes in and modifications of the construction may be made without de parting from the spirit of any invention or sacrificing its advantages.

Having fully described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure my Letters Patent 1. A bracket comprising a plate 13 which is adapted to be secured to a wall or other support, said plate being provided with a vertical longitudinal slot or opening having a smaller plate C fitting in said slot, said plate B being also providedwith loops or projections formed on the front thereof to receive and retain a bolt therein, and a bracket-arm which is detachably connected with said bolt, substantially as shown and described.

2. A bracketcomprising a plate which is adapted to be secured to a wall or other support, said plate being provided with a vertical longitudinal slot or opening to receive a hinged belt which is adapted to be placedtherein, said plate being also provided with loops or projections formed on the front thereof for the retention of said bolt when 5 placed therein, said bolt being provided with a plate B to engage with a bracket-arm which is detachably connected therewith, and said arm being provided at its outer end with a head in which is formed an opening or open- 10 ings, and at its inner end with means for attaching it to the said bolt, substantially as shown and described.
