SIG HT-FEED FOR LUBRICATORS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 570,080, dated October 27, 1896.
Application filed July 22,1892. Renewed March 20, 1896. Serial No. 584,184. (No model.)
T0 at whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, FRANK M. ASHLEY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Hawthorne, county of Passaic, State of New J ersey, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Sight-Feeds for Lubricators, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to a sight-feed which can be inserted and easily adjusted to an ordinary oil-cup, so as to render such oil-cup a sight-feed lubrieator, as will be explained in connection with the accompanying drawings,
which form a part of this specification, and in which- Figure I represents a vertical section of my improved form of sight-feed lubricator. Fig. II is a detail view. Fig. III is a vertical section of a modified form.
My improved sight-feed consists, essentially, of two sections, A and B, screwed together, as shown, and inclosing between them a glass tube 0. This glass tube seats at both ends upon annular rubber disks or rings D, which serve as means for sealing the joints between the sections and the said tube 0, thus preventing leakages. An opening or aperture E is provided in the section A, so that observations can be made through the glass tube or column 0.
At P, I show a plug-screw jointed with the female screw a of the section A, as shown in Fig. I. The plug is shown in detail in Fig. II, and is provided with inlet-openings O and downwardly-inclined divergent outlet-passages 0, through which the lubricating material is fed. At P is the lower terminus of the plug, ending, as shown, in apoint over which the lubricating material drips. The section A is further provided with female thread S at upper end to receive the screw-joint J of the oil-cup K. The section B is screwed onto lower end of section A and is formed with male thread M at its lower end, which is adapted to screw into the bearing to be lubricated. The threaded socket Sand threaded end M are both tapered to insure their fitting any lnbricator and bearing.
In Fig. III the feeding device is modi tied to the extent that a stop-cock T is employed in lieu of the arrangement shown in Fig. I.

Having thus described my invention, the following is what I claim as new therein and desire to secure by Letters Patent:
1. In an attachment for oil-cups, the hollow cylinder made in two parts adjustably held together and having a recess containing a female thread at one end and an adjustable valve in said recess in combination with a glass tube arranged therein with washers of rubber or other material between the two parts of the cylinder and the ends of the glass tube, as and for the purposes set forth.
2. In a sight-feed attachment for lubricators, &c. the combination of a hollow cylinder formed with an oil-passage and valve-seat in said passage, a valve adjustably supported in the oil-passage and consisting of a body having suitable inlet and downwardly-inclined divergent outlet passages and an extension 1) projecting freely through the oil-passage of the cylinder for the oil to drop from, substantially as set forth. I 3. The combination of sections A and B, the former being provided with a sight-opening and a glass tube 0, one section having a threaded recess and an adjustable valve located in said recess and provided with an extension 1 a space being formed between the extension and the orifice through which it passes, substantially as and for the purposes set forth.
4. As a newarticle of manufacture, a sightfeed attachment for lubricators, &c., comprising a hollow cylinder having a sight-opening and an oil-passage leading to and from the cylinder, a valve located in one of the oilthreaded socket at one end of the hollow cylinder, and a male screw at the other end of the cylinder substantially as set forth.
5. As a new article of manufacture, a sightfeed attachment for lubrieators, & e., comprising a hollow cylinder having a sight-opening' and formed with a tapered screw-threaded socket at one end and a tapered male screwthrcaded portion at its other end, and a suitable valve located at one end of the cylinder to for regulating the passage of a lubricant therethrough, substantially as set forth.
