UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
SIDNEY H. SHORT, OF CLEVELAND, OHIO, ASSIGNOR TO THE SHORT ELECTRIC RAIIAVAY COMPANY, OF SAME PLACE.
ELECTRIC-MOTOR SUPPORT.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 564,902, dated July 28, 1896.
Application filed October 3, 1889. Serial No. 325,878. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, SIDNEY H. SHORT, of Cleveland, in the county of Cuyahoga and State of Ohio, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Electric-Motor Supports; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the same.
Figure 1 is a side elevation illustrating my improvements. Fig. 2 is a'plan view,'and Fig. 3 is a view of a modification.
The axles of the car-truck are represented at a a, and between said axles a frame F is disposed. The frame F may be made U- shaped in form, one end thereof being supported at two points upon one axle and the other end of said frame being suspended from and supported by the other axle at a single point, the support of said frame F by the axles being entirely independent of the yielding support of the car body. An electric motor M is disposed between the parallel members of the frame F and has a pivotal connec tion with the axle at one end and supported by the frame at the other through the medium of a horizontal bar cl, extending across above the line of the frame and bearing against rubber or other yielding cushions supported on the upper surfaces of the limbs of the frame.
In Fig. 3 the frame is bent so that one end will be supported by one axle above the'latter and the other end suspended from the other axle, the free end of the motor M being connected with the frame F by means of a link.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim is- 1. In a motor-mounting, the combination with two axles, of a frame mounted on the axles independently of the yielding support for the car-body, said frame havinga support at two points upon one axle and suspended at a single point at its other end, from the other axle, a motor disposed between the members of said frame and pivotally connected at one end with the axle between the two bearings of said frame thereon, and a connection between the other end of said motor and said frame, substantially as set forth.
2.- In a motor-mounting, the combination with two axles, of a U-shaped frame having the free ends of its members mounted on one axle, a single connection between the other end of the frame and the other axle, a motor disposed within said frame and pivoted at one end to the axle upon which both members of the frame are supported, a cross-bar secured to the other end of the motor and yielding devices between the ends of said crossbar and said frame, substantially as set forth.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
SIDNEY H. SHORT.
