IMPRQVEM ENT IN WATER-ELEVATO RS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent N0. 56,2375, (lated July 10, 1866.
To all 'whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JONAS RYMOND, of Erwinna, Bucks county, State of Pennsylvania', have invented a new and useful Improvement in Water-Elevators for Wells; and I do hereby decla-re that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled iu the art to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specication, in which- Figure l is a side view section of the apparatus attached to a well. Fig. 2 is a closed side view ot same. Fig. 3 is a section showing the interior o the arrangement. taken in Vthe line x, Fig. 2.
Similar letters of reference indicate like parts.
My invention relates to drawing water from a well, and the object is to trip the bucket easily when it is emptied and let it down as slowly again into the Well as may be wished. This I hub, E, fastened on the end of the windlass shaft, on the exterior of which are three notches a a a., Fig. 3, into which is fitted a cog, b, on the inside of the crank, to catch, when the windlass is turned, to raise the bucket and hold it until it is emptied and lowered again.
Between the bottom of the brake D and the outside casing is a spiral spring', c, surrounding the end opposite crank-handle, which operates in expanding on the hub E by pressing against it and preventing the'windlass from turning rapidly and letting the bucket fall too suddenly.
For convenience in tilting and pouring the water out of the bucket, I attach a trough, F, inside the curb of the well, having connected with it a rod, d, which catches and tips the mouth over into the trough.
Having described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent,` 1s
The combination of the crank D with the ratchet-wheel B, the hub E, and the spiral brake-spring @constructed and arranged as and for the purposes herein described.
JONAS RYMOND.
