IMPROVEMENT IN FEEDING-TROUGHS FOR STOCK.

To all whom it 'may concern s Be it known that I, BENJAMIN ARNOLD, of Arba, in the county of Randolph and State of Indiana, have invented certain new and useful improvements in Feeding-Troughs for Stock; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the drawings which accompany this specication, forming a part of the same, and to the letters of reference marked thereon.

Figure l is a perspective View of the feed' A ing-trough. Fig. 2 is a vertical section of the same.

Like letters refer to like parts.

In Fig. l, A A represent the heads or end pieces of the framing, and .B B are side pieces, set at proper angles and joined at the bottom, forming a triangular trough. D D D D are divisions in said trough, placed at such a dis tance from each other as shall form spaces of the requisite size.

ln Fig. 2 B B" are arranged and constructed the same as B B', and for like purposes, B and B being joined at the top, as shown at J.

E Ef, Fig. l, lare side pieces, the edges of which, resting upon the ends A A', form the sides ot' a box of which F constitutes the end'. The planks G G', Fig. 2, are laid upon the ends of the frame A A, parallel withthe sides E E', and attached thereto. C C are side pieces placed lengthwise, their upper edges forming a support for the planks Gr Gr', and their lower edges notched into and resting upon the divisions D D D D.

The cross-piece F may be placed at any convenient distance from the end F to form a 'receptacle for food, and this bin or food-receptaele may be made of any desired height. H H and I I I compose steps, which are hinged to the side pieces, E E', at their forward ends, and when not in use may be folded upon the planks G G'.

To use my improved feed-trough it may be placed within the inclosure with the steps folded, when it is entirely free from Inolestation, and when required for use thesteps are dropped, the operator mounts the steps, and walking around upon the planks G G', deposits the food or slop upon the ridge or division J as he passes the length of the structure,making an even division of the substance among the animals, while the divisions D D D D secure the weaker from the encroachments of the stronger animal.

What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-

The arrangement and combination of the various parts constituting the trough-platform, food-receptacle, and steps, all in the manner and for the purposes set forth.
