JEAN MARTIN BOSSELAAR AND J ULES FRANQOIS MARIE VAN DEN ELSI-IOUT, OF BRUSSELS, BELGIUM.
APPARATUS FOR MANUFACTURING GAS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 558,710, dated April 21, 1896.
Application filed December 20, 1894. Serial No- 532,4S0. (No modeL) Patented in France November 29, 1894, No. 243,231, and in England November 30, 1894,1Tm 23,276-
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, JEAN MARTIN Bossn- LAAR and J ULES FRANQOIS MARIE VAN DEN ELSHOUT, subjects of the King of Belgium, residing at Brussels, in the Kingdom of Belgium, have invented a new and useful Improvement Relating to Apparatus for the Manufacture of Gas, (for which patents have been obtained in France, dated November 29, 1894, No. 243,231, and in Great Britain, dated November 80, 1894, No. 23,276,) of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
Our invention is designed to manufacture gas by the rapid vaporization of oil, which is fed into the vaporizing-chamber in such a regulated quantity as to be instantly vaporized upon contact with the walls of said chamber.
The accompanying drawing shows the vaporizer-chamber in section with parts of the apparatus in side elevation.
The supply-pipe for the petroleum has a valve at R, and it is branched to connect with the two feeders A A, which are supplied with needle-valves to nicely adjust the supply of oil, which is fed in drops into the chamber G, with which the feeders connect.
In, order to secure the maximum heating effect and reduce the amount of fuel required to a minimum, we make the vaporizing-chamber of lens shape and inclose it in a jacket of similar shape, and Bunsen burners F project into the jacket at opposite points, so that the flames therefrom will strike the points of the lens and being divided thereby will spread over the upper and lower sides of the lens, heating the chamber G intensely and quickly, so that the drops of oil fed by the feeders A will be vaporized instantly and will pass off through a suitable pipe D to a purifier of or dinary form.
We claim.
In combination in a gas-manufacturing apparatus, the lens-shaped generator G, the casing surrounding the same,-the burners at the opposite points of the lens arranged with sharp or cutting edges to divide the flame and envelop the lens with the same, the means for feeding the fluid into the lens shaped chamber and the outlet leading from the chamber, substantially as described.
JEAN MARTIN BOSSELAAR. JULES FRANQOIS MARIE VAN DEN ELSHOUT.
