To all whom it may concern.-

Be it known that I, GEORGE M. CoNDrT, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Nineveh, in the county of Green and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Feed- Troughs; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.

The obj ect of this invention is to provide a rectangular feed-trough, supported between two uprights or posts, with means whereby it can be turned in one position for iilling the same and in another position for feeding the animals, the trough being connected to a lever,which is pivoted to one of the posts, said post also carrying hooks which engage the lever to hold the trough in its different positions; and the invention consists in the construction and combination of the parts, as will be hereinafter fullyset forth and particularly pointed out in the claim.

In the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification, Figure l is a sectional view showing the trough in position to be illed. Fig. 2 is a similar view showing the trough turned in position for feeding the hogs or other live stock; and Fig. 3 is a front elevation looking from the inner side oi' the pen, the trough being in position for feeding.

A designates a fence or section of a pen, consisting in part of vertical posts A and A2 and rails or panels a, which are secured to the posts in the usual manner.

B designates the feed-trougl1,which is boxshaped or rectangular and consists of side boards, b and b', a bottom board, b2, and end pieces, b3. From the end pieces, b3, of the trough project trunnions or pivot-pins B, which bear in recesses in the posts A and A2, so as to pivotally support the trough a suitable distance above the ground.

C G designate division-boards, which are attached to the lower rails of the fence and are connected to each other by a transverse strip a. These boards are provided with an inclined edge, as shown, and are cut away7 at their lower ends so as not to interfere with the movement of the trough, the lower ends extending downwardly to a point on a line with the trunnions or pivots B.

D designates a lever, which is pivoted at one end to a support attached to the post A', and to the lever adjoining its pivot is connected a rod d, the lower end of which is curved and pivotally connected to the end of the trough which adjoins the post A. By this connection, when the lever is raised, the trough will be turned `upon its pivots so that it will be accessible from that side of the fence within the pen, Fig. 2, and when lowered to a substantially horizontal position the trough will be turned to the position Fig. l, so as to be accessible from the other side of the fence, the latter position being that required for filling the trough.

To support the lever in the different positions I attach to the post A' hooks E and E', the hook E being a short one and adapted to engage the lever when it is raised, while the hook E is a longer one Vand is adapted to engage the lever when it is lowered, as shown in Fig. l. It will be here noted that when the hooks are disengaged the lever can be thrown below the position shown in Fig. l, so as to dump the contents of the trough, this being desired in washing out or cleaning the trough.

The device hereinbefore described provides a cheap, simple, and effective trough, and one in which, though rectangular, presents a V- shaped trough when in use, the upper part serving to prevent waste of food either by splashing out when the trough is being filled or while the animals are feeding.

I am aware that prior to my invention it has been proposed to pivotally support a trough in a feed-pen and provide means for holding the trough in place when turned upon its pivots.
