My invention consists of a spur, which may be readily connected with the heel of a boot or shoe of the wearer, and may iirmly retain its position thereon, it being also adapted to be adjustable according to requirements, as will be hereinafter set forth.

Figure l represents aperspective view of a heel-spur embodying my invention. Fig. 2 represents a section of a portion thereof, on an enlarged scale. Fig. 3 represents a perspective view of a modification.

Referring to the drawings, A designates the rim or body of the spur, whose front portion is divided or separated at B, forming the sections O and D, whereby the rim may expand and contract.

E designates an ear, which is freely mounted on the section C, so as to be capable of rotating thereon, and F designates a swinging lever, which is mounted in the end of the section D and has a rotating ear G mounted thereon.

H designates a link of the form of a screw, which is swiveled in the ear E, and engages with the threaded opening in the ear G.

The operation is as follows: The lever F is lowered, whereby the rim expands, and the spur may be readily itted on the heel of the shoe of the wearer. The lever is now raised, whereby, as the screw I-I is connected with said lever by means of the ear E between the ends of the lever, said screw rises with the lever, and as its axis is on the ear E, which is mounted on the section C, as has been stated, and so acts radially, whereby the sections O and D are brought together, and the rim is accordingly closed on the heel in a firm and effective manner, it being noticed that the lever F will be raised a little above the center,

limited by the shank of the shoe, so that as the lever is subjected to lateral pressure its tendency is to press against said shank, and so is prevented from dropping or lowering, whereby the rim is held in closed condition and so retains its position on the heel.

Owing to the screw H, provision is made for adjusting the rim to heels of dierent sizes, as well as adjusting the throw of the leverF according to requirements.

In order to preserve the adjustment of the rim, without the use of the screw H, I employ the link .I in lieu of the latter, and pivotally connect the same with the lever F and with the section O, as shown in Fig. 3. In this case the section O is provided with a number of openings K to receive the pivotal pin or screw L of the link J, the effect of which is obvious.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-

1. A spur having a rim with a sectional or divided end, a lever mounted on one section thereof, an ear on the other section, an ear on said lever, and a screw swiveled in one ear and engaging with the other ear, substantially as described.

2. A spur having a rim with separated ends, a lever pivoted to one of said ends, and alink pivotally connected with said lever and the other end of said rim, one of the pivotal connections of said link being adjustable,where by the Width of said rim and the throw of said link maybe regulated, said parts being combined substantially as described.

3. A spur having a rim with a divided front rim forming two sections, a rotatable ear mounted on one of said sections, a lever mounted on the other section and having a threaded ear mounted thereon, and a threaded bolt swiveled in the first-mentioned ear and working in said threaded ear, said parts being combined substantially as described.
