DISPLAY-RACK.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 554,717, dated February 18, 1896. Application led May 13, 1895. Serial No. 549,093. (No model.)

T0 all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, THOMAS F. MCGANN, of Somerville, in the county of Middlesex and State of Massachusetts, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Display-Racks, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to appliances for displaying goods in shop-windows and elsewhere, and it has for its object Lto provide a simple and convenient display appliance adapted to be adjusted so as to afford considerable scope for the exercise of taste and skill in the arrangement of goods.

The invention consists in the improvements which I will now proceed to describe and claim.

Of the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, Figure l represents a perspective view of a display appliance embodying my improvements. Fig. 2 represents a section on line 2 2 of Fig. l, looking downwardly.

The same letters of reference indicate the same parts in both figures.

In the drawings, a represents a vertical cylindrical standard mounted on a suitable base a.

b represents a sleeve formed' to surround said standard and to move vertically as well as to rotate thereon.

b represents a transverse sleeve aiixed to the sleeve b and arranged at right angles therewith, so that when the sleeve b is in place on the standard the sleeve b will occupy a horizontal position at one side of the standard.

c represents a rod supported by and adapted to rotate in the sleeve b', said rod being provided at its ends with arms c', which, as here shown, are notched to engage the rods e employed to support the goods that are to be displayed on the appliance. The sleeve b is provided with a clamping device, such as a set-screw b2, adapted to lock the rod c to the sleeve b in any position to which said rod may be turned, thereby securing the arms c at any angle to which they may be adjusted. Means are provided for supporting the sleeve b at any desired height upon the standard a, said means, as here shown, comprising a collar d, secured to the standard by a set-screw d and supporting the sleeve h.

I have also shown a set-screw hgengaged with the sleeve b and adapted to secure the latter to the standard.

Each set of the above-mentioned devices comprises a complete shelf or support, and as many of said shelves may be employed on the standard a as may be desired. It will be seen 6o that the facility of adjustment afforded by the above-described construction will enable a display appliance comprising a standard and plurality of said supports or shelves to be arranged in a variety of different ways, according to the taste of vthe decorator. For example, the shelves may be disposed at dierent angles, or may radiate or project in diiferent directions from the standard, thus giving a spiral effect, or one may be adjusted so as 7o to project mainly from one side of the standard, the next projecting mainly from the opposite side, and so on. The arms c may be disposed horizontally or vertically or at any desired intermediate angle and held by the set-screws b2.

I claim-- A display-rack comprising a standard a, a sleeve b surrounding the standard and vertically movable thereon, means for supporting 8o the said sleeve at any height to which it may be adjusted on the standard, a sleeve b affixed to the sleeve b at one side of the latter, the sleeve b' being arranged at right angles with the sleeve b and offset therefrom, so that it 8 5 extends continuously across the sleeve b and across the standard, a rod c extending through the sleeve b and adapted both to move endwise and to rotate therein, two pairs of arms c c affixed to the end portions of said rod, 9o and a set-screw b2 engaged with the socket b' and adapted to hold the rod c therein at any position to which it may be adjusted, the arms c' being connected by the rod c and simultaneously adjustable by movements of said rod.
