DOBBY FOR LOOMS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 554,314, dated February 1 1, 1896.
Application filed September 14, 1895. Serial No. 562,491. (No model.)
To 60% whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, ADAM SOHEID, a citizen of the United States, residing in Harrison, Hudson county, and State of New Jersey, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Dobbies for Looms; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and
exact description of the invention, such as,
and which maybe easily and quickly adjusted.
The invention consists in the improved dobby, its adjustable j ack-supporting rod, and in the combination and arrangements of the various parts thereof,- substantially as will be hereinafter more fully described and finally embodied in the clauses of the claim.
Referring to the accompanying drawings, in which like letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in each of the several views, Figure 1 is a side elevation of a dobby provided with my improved j ack-supporting rod; Fig. 2, an enlarged detail view of the same, illustrated in connection with a portion of its lifting-lever. Fig. 3 is a front elevation, and Fig. 4 a sectional view on line 00 x of Fig. 3, illustrating a modified form of the supporting-rod.
In saiddrawings, a is the dobby-frame; l), the harness-lever, carrying the connector 0, to the outer end of which are pivotally secured the upper and lower hooked jacks d and 6, adapted to be engaged by the lifters f and g, respectively, and all of the usual and wellknown construction.
The lifting-lever 71 pivoted as at 71.. and operated through pattern-chain 7c, is provided at or near its inner end with a vertically-arranged slot 72/2, in which rests the pin "i projecting horizontally from the link 71 To said link is adjustably secured, by bolt and nut i,
the flattened lower portion i of the supporting-rod 2', which is for that purpose provided with an elongated slot 5 through which the tightening-bolt t passes. The supporting rod '6 is either round or fiat and is provided with an upper and lower collar or lug t" and i adapted to support the upper and lower jacks, respectively. The link can be provided with projecting flanges t, as shown in Fig. 2, to obtain a more secure and firmer joint between the said link and the flattened portion 1? of rod t', if so desired.
Should during the operation of the machine the jack-supporting collars or lugs 2" and 2' partially wear off, the tightening nut and bolt 2' is loosened, the rod raised up to the required height, and the bolt and nut again tightened. By this simple means the frequent changing of the j ack-supporting rods and their respective collars is fully avoided and the device thus rendered more durable and economical.
I do not intend to limit myself to the precise construction shown and described, as va rious alterations can be made without changing the scope of my invention.
' Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. A jack-supporting rod for a dobby, consisting of a rod having an upper and lower collar or lug, and provided at its lower end with a vertically-arranged slot, a link arranged on the slotted portion of said rod, a nut and bolt to adjustably secure said link and rod together, and a pin projecting horizontally from said link, all said parts, substantially as and for the purposes described.
2. The lifting-lever, the pattern-surface, the upper and lower hooked jack, the con nector, and the rod having an upper and lower collar or lug to support the upper and lower jack respectively, said rod being provided at its lower end with a vertically-arranged slot, a link carried by the lifting-lever and arranged on the slotted portion of said rod, a nut and bolt to adjustably secure said link and rod together, combined with the harnesslever joined with the connector, and with the lifters to operate the jacks, substantially as described.
3. The liftingdever, provided with a vertiro zontallyarranged pin adapted to rest in the slot of the lifting-lever, and a nut and bolt to adjustably secure said link and rod together all said parts substantially as described.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing I have hereunto set my hand this 4th day of I 5 September, 1895.
ADAM SOHEID. Vitnesses ALFRED GARTNER, DUNCAN M. ROBERTSON.
