APPARATUS PoR SAVING PREM-@Us METALS. n No. 550,515. Patented Nov. 26, 1895.
LMDREN E CHMAN. PROTO Lmm WASHINGON D C UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ALFONSO S. LASZKIEVIOZ, OF MARTINEZ, CALIFORNIA, ASSIGNOR OF TWO-THIRDS TO JAMES H. BORLAND AND ROBERT B. BORLAND, OF
SAME PLACE.
APPARATUS FOR SAVING PRECIOUS METALS.
SPECIFICATION formingpart of Letters Patent NoA 550,515, dated November 26, 1895.
Application filed July 3l, 1893. Serial No. 481,938. (No model.)
To a/ZZ whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, ALFoNso S. LAszKrE- vICZ, a citizen of the United States, residing at Martinez, in the county of Contra Costa and State of California, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Apparatus for Extracting Precious Metals; and I do hereby declare the following` to be a full, clear, and exact description of said invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it mostnearly appertains to make, use, and practice the same.
This invention relates to a certain new and useful apparatus for extracting' precious metals, the object thereof being to provide a more complete amalgamation of the gold, dac. combined within or carried by the gangue, the invention being more particularly designed for saving of the fine or float gold and such as comes under the term of rusty gold, all as will be hereinafter more fully pointed out and described.
In order to more fully understand my invention, reference must be had to the accompanying sheet of drawings, forming a part of this application, wherein- Figure l is a view in side elevation showing the sluice-box connected with an ordinary battery. Fig. 2 is a top plan of Fig. l with battery removed. Fig. 8 is an enlarged broken longitudinal sectional side elevation taken on line y y, Fig. 2; and Fig. 4 is a cross-sectional top plan taken on line 0c, Fig. 3.
The letter A is used to indicate the receiving sluice-box, which, by preference, I have shown connected with the battery A. This box may be constructed of any suitable material. The outer end of said box is provided witha series of discharge-openings B, through which the ore-pulp or gangue fed thereto from the battery escapes. Each of the dischargeopenings I separate by means of the zinc partition-strips B', which divide the mass passing through the sluice-box, so as to give an equal feed to each discharge-opening. Within the discharge-openingI secure the funnel-shaped tubes O,which are formed of zinc or galvanized iron. These tubes project some distance below the sluice-box, as shown, and are connected to the glass tubes C by means of the zinc or galvanized-iron caps C2, the glass tubes being cemented or otherwise secured to the caps. The lower ends of said glass tubes project within the porcelain or other non-conducting saucers D resting upon the sluice D', which receives the waste material. These saucers are lled with mercury or quicksilver. I-Ience the ends of the glass tubes are immersed within the quicksilver or mercury for a depth of about one-eighth of an inch. The diameter of these glass tubes is greater than the discharge end of the funnel-shaped tubes in order that the material passing therein may accumulate, so that the pressure thereof will sufce to force the same through the quicksilver or mercury bath within the saucers.
In operation the material, as it leaves the bath, is chemically treated in any well-known vmanner which will effect an electrical action rial is forced over the sides of the saucersinto the discharge-sluice, as shown by the arrows, Fig. 3.
Having thus described my invention, what I I claim as new, and desire to secure protection in by Letters Patent, is-
In an apparatus for saving precious metals, the combination with a receiving sluice or box having a plurality of discharge openings, metallic partitions between the openings, metallic funnel-shaped tubes leading from the openings, caps carried by the lower ends of the tubes, enlarged receiving tubes secured to the caps, and vessels into which the tubes enter, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
ALFONSO S. LASZKIEVICZ.
