To a/ZZ whom it may concern.-

Be it known that I, LEE ANDERSON, a citizen of the United States, residing at Paris, in the county of Lamar, State of Texas, have invented certain new and vuseful Improvements in Hams-Fasteners, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to vthe accompanying drawings. This invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in hame-fasteners of that class comprising two adjustable parts, one of which is provided with hooks to be engaged by means on the other part; and it has for its object, among others, to provide a simple and cheap fastener of this class which can be readily applied and adjusted and which, when adjusted, is irmlyheld against accidental unlocking or disengagement, yet easily unlocked, when desired. Each part is provided with a hook, the one part being formed with lugs oppositely disposed and adapted to hold up the end of the strap, and the other part is provided with an extension which ts between these lugs and serves to press the strap outward and against the inturned ends of the lugs, so as to prevent any possibility of accidental disengagement. One end of the strap is riveted or otherwise fastened to the back of the part provided with the hooks and prevents rubbing of the said parts against the leather collar.

Other objects and advantages of the invention will hereinafter appear, and the novel features thereof willbe specifically defined by the appended claims.

The invention is clearly illustrated in the accompanying drawings, which, with the letters of reference marked thereon, form a part of this specification, and in which- Figure l is a longitudinal section through my improved hame-fastener shown in position and the parts locked. Fig. 2 is a perspective view of one part ofthe fastener with the strap attached thereto. Fig. 3 is a similar View of the other part of the fastener. Fig. 4 is a cross-section on the line 4 4 of Fig. 1.

Referring now to the details of the drawings by letter, Adesignates one part of the fastener, preferably of steel, having at one "which terminate in the inwardly-extending portions 01.2, as shown in Figs. 1 and 4, and

may or may not be tapered, as shown in Fig. 4. The strap C has one end riveted or otherwise fastened to the back of the part A, as shown in. Figs. 1 and 2.

B is the other part of the fastener. It is formed at one end with a hook b, the saidpart B being of a width to tit between the side flanges of the part A, as seen in Fig. 4, and near the end opposite that at which the hook is formed it is provided with the laterally-extended lugs or pins B', adapted to engage in the hooks of the said iianges.l The extension B2 of the part B beyond these lateral projections serves an important function, as will be set forth hereinafter, preventing when locked the mouthpiece and lug-bar from gaping open.

The parts constructed and arranged substantially as above set forth are applied as follows: The part B is placed between the ianges of the part A and the hooks a and b are engaged over the hames D, as shown in Fig. 1. The strap is then pulled to tighten the parts, and when sufficiently taut the projections or pins B of the part B are engaged in the proper hooks of the side flanges of the part A and the end of the strap confined between the lugs a. The part B is slightly rounded, as shown in Fig. 1, so that when the strap is pulled over its hooked end the eXtension B2 is forced up against the body portion of the part A, as seen in Fig. l, and the projections are more firmly held within their hooks and the strap is held down against the inwardly-extending portions a2 of the lugs a', as shown in Figs. l and L1. When it is desired to unlock the parts, the end of the strap may be slightly turned or twisted, so as to allow of its being removed from between the lugs 0,', and then it can be removed from between the side flanges A and the projections disengaged from the hooks of the sideiianges. The taper of the in wardly-extending portions a2 of the lugs a facilitates disengagement of the end of the strap, when desired. l

What I claim as new isl. The herein described haine fastener composed of a metallic part having the strap secured thereto and formed with a hook at one end and at its opposite edges with hooked flanges extending at right angles to the length of the said part and at the end nearest said hook the side flanges being formed with lugs the free ends of which terminate in inwardly extending portions and the cooperating part B having a hook at one end and near its opposite end with laterally projecting portions extending beyond the sides thereof, the said part being adapted to lit between the said flanges of the other 'part andthe said proj ections to engage in the hooks of said side flanges, all substantially as shown and described.

2. The herein described hame fastener composed of a metallic part having the strap secured thereto and formed with a hook at one end and at its opposite edges with hooked flanges extending at right angles to the length of the said part and at the end nearest said hook the side flanges being formed with lugs the free ends of which terminate in inwardly extending portions and the cooperating part B having a hook at one end and near its opposite end with laterally projecting portions extending beyond the sides thereof, the said part being adapted toit between the said flanges of the other part and the said projections to engage in the hooks of said side flanges, the said part B being formed with an extension beyond said projections to cooperate with the strap and the inwardly extending portions of the lugs, substantially as de scribed.
