SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 547,208, dated October 1, 1 895.

Application filed January 10, 1895- Serial No- J N 111 1 1 To all whom it may concern.-

Be it known that I; NEY TUCKER HALL, a citizen of the United States, residing at Cleveland, in the county of Bradley and State of Tennessee, have invented a certain new, useful, and valuable Improvement in Loom Attachments, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.

My invention has relation to attachments for looms adapted to aid the operator in detecting broken threads; and it consists in the novel construction and arrangement of its parts, as hereinafter described.

In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a longitudinal sectional View of the upper part of a loom provided with the attachment. Fig. 2 is a perspective View of the attachment.

The attachment consists of a white part 1, made of any suitable material, and being pivoted at its rear edge in the framework of the loom by means of the lugs 2 2, which enter suitable bearings in the loom. The part lextends under the warp 3 from the rear edge of the loom to justbehind the heddles 4:4. Said part is slanted ata suitable angle in order that it may be substantially at right angles to the eye of the operator. The said part is provided with a means for regulating the slant thereof, which may consist of a cord 5, secured to the edge of the surface and passing up over a pulley6 and then to the front part of the loom, at which point it can be operated and secured.

The U-shaped arms 7 7 are-secured at one end to the part 1, and said arms extend down under the heddles and support at their other ends a white part 8. Said part is also pitch ed at an angle to the eye of the operator, and it extendsfrom beneath the reed 9 to about the front of the loom and under the warp and woof 10. It is not necessary that the parts 1 and S be White; but they should be of a different color than that of the warp and the woof. Thus the attachment affords a background, and should any of the threads break the ends thereof can be quickly seen against as different-colored background, and the damages can be readily repaired;

The attachment can be used to great advantage for night work or on dark'days, and at all times it is a great savior of the operators eyesight, time, and patience.

Having described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is

1. In combination with a weaving machine, an attachment adapted to facilitate the detection of breaks in the warp thread, consisting of a part having a broad flat surface located above the support of the machine and beneath the warp thread on one side of the bed dles, a second part having a broad fiat surface connected with and supported by the first said part but being on the other side of the heddles and beneath the warp thread, both said hinged part whereby the inclination of the said part can be readily changed, said part being of a diiferent color than that of the thread, as set forth.
