Description

(No Model.)
J. GHRISTMANN. DEViGE FORQHANGING PICTURE MOLDINGS.
N0. 546,5 07.- Patented Sept-17, 1895,
JOHN OHRISTMANN, OF MILWAUKEE, WVISOONSIN, ASSIGNOR TO ALBERT J. OHRISTMANN, OF SAME PLACE.
DEVICE FOR HANGING PICTURE -MQLDINGE7.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 546,507, dated September 17, 1895. Application filed May 6, 1895. Serial No. 548,272- (No modeL) declare that the following is a full, clear, andeXact description thereof.
My invention has for its object to provide for the ready attachment and removal of picture-molding without damage to the walls on which it is hung; and it consists in the simple, economical, and adjustable .permanent supports hereinafter set forth, with reference to the accompanying drawings, and
subsequently claimed.
In the drawings, Figure 1 represents a section taken on line 1 l of Fig. 3; Fig. 2, a front elevation of a picture-molding support constructed accordingto my invention and partly broken away, and Fig. 3 a similar view illustrating a strip of picture-molding engaging said support.
Referring by letter to the drawings, A represents a fiat plate having inturned vertical edges 1), an upturned outwardly-facing lower end 0, and an opening for the passage of a screw B,.by which it is secured to a stud O or other portion of a wall, said opening being reamed out in order that the head of the screw may come flush with said plate.
Arranged between the inturned edges 1) of the plate A is another flat plate D, having an offset upper end d as well as a central longitudinal slot e, the latter being engaged by the screw B aforesaid.
The upturned lower end 0 of the plate A constitutes a hook for the reception of picturemolding E, and the offset upper end d of plate D laps the upper edge of said molding to hold the same in place, the latter plate being vertically adjustable in order to compensate for different widths of molding.
I Fixtures that individually comprise the peculiar plates A D, above specified, are placed at'intervals along a wall, and the latter plate being adjustable it is plain that picture-molding'of Various widths may be readily put in place or removed at will.
Having thus described my invention, what Iclaim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. A picture-molding hanger comprising two plates laid fiat one against the other, the outer plate being attachable to a wall but bent at its lower end to come up outside the mold- 'ing, the inner plate being vertically adjustable on the one aforesaid and bent at its upper end to overlap said molding.
2. A picture-molding hanger comprising an outer plate having inturned vertical edges and an upturned lower end, a wall-attaching screw extended through said plate, and a 1ongitudinally slotted inner plate that engages said screw and has an ofiset upper end.
In testimony that I claim the'foregoing I have hereunto set my hand, at Milwaukee, in
the county ofMilwaukee and State of Wiscousin, in the. presence of two witnesses.
JOHN OHRISTMANN.
