SACKl SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 546,168, dated September 10, 1895. pplicationiilcd January 22, 1895. Serial'No. 535,814. (No rundet) ro adapted for carrying grain, with handles at the bottom, corners, and sides, the handles being so placed upon the sack or bag that they will serve to strengthen the same, and whereby when the sack or bag is lifted by means of i the handles the latter Will sustain the burden of the strain.
Another object of the invention is to solocate the handles or hand-holds that they will serve, when at the bottom, to hold the sack zo straight at that point, and will be so located that no matter in what position the sack may be it may be expeditiously and conveniently handled, since one or more of the handles will be available for use.
The invention consists in the novel construction and combination of the several parts, as will be hereinafter fully set forth, and pointed out in the claims.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying 3o drawings, forming a part of this specification,
the improvements applied. Fig. 2 is a viev7 of the sack taken from that side at which the handles are placed, the sack being opened out; and Fig. 3 is a horizontal section talren'sub` stantially on the line 3 3 of Fig. l1.-
ln carrying out the invention the sack or bag A may be made of any desired material, and itis provided with a strap 10, or reinforcing strip, which extends down upon opposite sides from a point at or near the top, around the lower corners, and along the bottom at the 5o at intervals in its length is folded upon itself to form series of loops'll, the said loops contween the corner ones, as is best shown in Fig. 6o
l. In fact, these handles or hand-holds may be located at any point in the length of the strap, and since the strap in which the handles are formed is secured to the sack at its outer face, it serves as a reinforcement therefor at the sides and at the bottom, and the said strap is preferably made to cover the seam in the sack, if a seam exists, as shown in Fig. 2; but I desire it to be distinctly understood that the handles maybe independent and secured to the sack in substantially the same order as has been described.
The strap lO, where the handles, loops, or hand-holds ll are formed, is folded longitudi nally and secured at its edges, so as to make the handle substantially circular in cross-sec tion, thereby enabling the sack to be handled Without injury to the hands.
The handles, when employed as above set forth, Serve to hold the bag out straight While it is being iilled, and by gripping the handles at the corners at the bottom or inverting` the sack all of the contents of said saclr may be expeditiously and conveniently removed; and it is evident that no matter in what position the sack may be placed, one or more of the handles or hand-holds will be available, and that when the sack is tied at tho top the upper side handles Will be virtually at the top portions of the sack.
Having thus described my invention, l claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patentl. A sack provided With a reinforcing strap secured to opposite sides and extending around thelower edges and across the bottom, the said strap being unattached to the sack at various points in its length and 'rendered Jfull at its unattached points, forming a series of handles, whereby the strap in addition to forming handles for manipulating the Sack reinforces the same, as set forth,
