BOTTLE HOLDER.
No. 546,033. Patented Sept. 10, 1895 Wiigcsszs UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JERRY \V. SHEPARD, OF- AURORA, ILLINOIS.
BOTTLE- HOLDER.
SPECIFICATION forming of Letters Patent No. 546,033, dated September 10, 1 395.
Application filed April 6, 1895.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JERRY W. SIIErARn, a citizen of the United States, residing at Aurora, in the county of Kane and State of Illinois, have invented a new and useful Ilottlollolder, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to an improvement in devices for holding nursing-bottles.
The object of the present invention is to provide a simple and cllicient holder or device for supporting a nursing-bottle and attaching the same to a pillow, whereby the bottle is prevented from slipping out of the reach of the infant.
To this end the invention consists in an improved bottle-holding device made from any suitable fabric and provided at one end with a loop-hem adapted to receive a safety or other pin for attaching the device to a pillow and provided at its other end with a bottlecontaining loop having one or more pieces of elastic webbing providing for bottles of different sizes and adapted to embrace and securely grasp the bottle for preventing its escape; also, in certain features and details of construction and arrangement; of parts, as hereinafter fully described, illustrateddn the drawings, and pointed out in the claims.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure l is a perspective view of an improved bottleholding device constructed in accordance with this invention. Fig. 2 is a similar view illustrating the manner in which the improved device is applied and used in practice.
Similar numerals of reference indicate corresponding parts in the figures of the drawings.
Referring to the drawings, the main body of the bottle-holding device (indicated at']) is made from any suitable or preferred fabric or material, and said material is preforably doubled upon itself and stitched together at its opposite edges, thereby atfording a double thickness of the material used and greatly increasing the strength and durability of the device. At oneend the body 1 is made tapering or with converging side edges and is provided with a loop-hem formed by turning over the end upon itself and running one or more rows of stitches transversely across the same, as shown. This loop-hem (desig- Scrial No, 544,786. (No niodeld nated by the reference-numeral 2) is adapted to receive the lower arm or base of an ordinary safety-pin 3, by means of which the device as a whole may be securely attached to a pillow, as shown in Fig. 2. Intermediate the ends of the main body portion l'the same is provided with a (lap or extension-piece l, which is also preferably made of a double thickness of the same material as the body 1 and stitched to the main body by one or more transverse rows of stitches, as shown in Fig. l. The main body portion 1 at its lower end, or the end opposite to that on which the loop hem is formed, is folded oversl'ightly upon itsell, as indicated at 5, and between the. inner adjacent edgesot' the [tap it and the overturned lower end 5, just referred to, are sccured two oppositely-disposed pieces of clastic webbing 6, located at or near the oppt3- site side edges of the device and preferably stitched at their ends between the two thicknesses of the llap and overturned lower portion 5.
In practice the bottle-holding device do scribed is to be attached toa pillow by means of the safety-pin 3, after which the bottle of milk is inserted into the elastic loop or pocket, where it is held by means of the elastic webs (i. The bottle 'is thus prevented from slipping out of the reach of the child when using the cling-fast or any similar nipples. The device above described is extremely simple and convenient, may be quickly applied to and removed from the pillow, will' cll'ectually prevent the bottle from slipping out of the reach of an infant, and will also prevent the bottle from falling upon the floor or against hard objects and becoming broken.
It will be apparent that changes in the form, proportion, and the minor details of construction may be resorted to without; departing from the principle or sacrificing any of the advantages of this invention.
Having thus described-the invention, what is claimed as new, and desired to be secured by Letters Patent, is-
l. A flexible holder for nursing bottles, the same being composed entirely of textile material and comprising an open loop shaped pocket which is divided transversely, elastic webbing introduced between and connecting, the adjacent edges of the pocket formed by such transverse division thereof, and a lateral extension of said pocket formed with a, loop hem for the reception of a. securing device by means of which the bottle holder may be attached to a pillow or other support, substantially as specified.
2. A holding device for nursing bottles comprising a. main body portion provided at one end with a loop hem for the reception of a safety pin adapting the device to be applied to a, pillow or other support, a, lower overturned or folded portion, a flap or extension piece stitched to the main body portion intermediatethe ends thereof, and two oppositely disposed pieces of elastic webbing interposed between and connected to the inner adjacent edges of the flap or extension piece and the lower folded or turned over portion ofthe main body portion, substantially as and for the purpose described.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own I have hereto affixed my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
JERRY W. SHEPARD.
