SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent NO. 545,003, dated August 20, 1895.

To all whom it may concern.-

Be it known that I, WILLIAM WEAVER, of Philadelphia, in the county of Philadelphia and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Pea or Bean Hullers; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it pertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which form part of this specification.

This invention has reference to pea or bean hullers, the object being to provide a mechanism of simple and convenient form for forcing peas or beans from their hulls and separating them at the same time.

With these objects in view my invention consists in the novel features of construction hereinafter described and claimed, and illustrated by the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 is a side elevation of the machine. Fig. 2 is a rear elevation with the hull-receiving box removed. Fig. 3 is a vertical sec tional View of the hulling-rollers.

A designates the standard of the machine, having the clamping portion B at its lower end for securing to a table or othersupport. At the upper end of the standard A is the boxing O, in which are mounted the rolls D provided with an elastic covering E, and connected at one end by pinions F. One of the rolls is operated by a crank G. From the front edges of boxing 0 project the supports H, to which is secured the downwardly-inclined shield I, arranged with its inner end above the surface of the rolls and its lower edge depending beneath the line of the meeting surfaces of the rolls, so that as the peas or beans are fed into the machine beneath said shield they will, when pressed from the pod, drop into receiver J instead of being permitted to fly about over the floor, as they do when suddenly wrested from the pod if not confined. Receiver J is provided upon its inner side with the vertical spring-guide K, adapted to overlap and bind the extended edges (1 of standardA, so that the same may be put in position by moving vertically and displaced or taken off in the same manner, as will be understood. The receiver slides up directly beneath the discharge of boxing C, and thus receives all the peas or beans as they come from the rolls. As the upper roll is' arranged a little in advance of the lower one the hulling of the fruit in the manner described is materially assisted. From the rear of standard A extends the vertical. web A, from which is projected the pin L, and adapted to extend on opposite sides of the web and pass behind the said pin are the spring-arms M on the rear side of the podreoeiver N, which is adapted to rest on the shelf 0, projected from the frame as shown. In thisway the said receiver is held-in position, from which it may be readily removed when desired, and being directly beneath the rolls receives all the pods as they drop therefrom. Y

Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is

1. The combination of the standard,ahulling mechanism supported thereby, the pea receiving receptacle, the vertical guides on its inner side for moving longitudinally on the extended vertical edges of the standard, substantially as shown and described.

2. The combination of a standard,a hulling mechanism at the upper end thereof, the transverse pin carried by the standard, a hull receiving receptacle, and the two spring arms on the rear of the receptacle for engaging said pin, substantially as shown and described.

3. In a pea and bean huller, the combination of a frame carrying the vertical web A and laterally extending shelf 0, a hnlling mechanism supported by the frame, receptacle N adapted to rest on the shelf, the spring arms M projected from the rear side of the receptacle, and pin L in web A which said arms engage, substantially as shown and described.
