R. LAMARCHEi GON'TRIVANUE FOR DISINFEGTING TELEPHONE APPARATUS. No. 543,490. Patented July 30, 1895.
JUNITED STATES PATENT FFIcE.
RUDOLPH LAMAROHE, OF HAMBURG, GERMANY.
CONTRIVANCE FOR DISINFECTING TEL EPHONE APPARAT US.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 543,490, dated July 30, 1895.
Application filed July 24,18 94:- Serial No. 518,486. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, RUDOLPH LAMARCHE,
' of 32 Alsterdamm, Hamburg, Empire of Germany, have invented new and useful Improvements in Contrivances for Disinfecting Telephone Apparatus, of which the following is a specification.
The present invention consists of a contrivance by means of which one can easily disinfect the telephone apparatus before use. It is thereby an exceedingly great improvement of the telephone apparatus, for the latter is undoubtedly in many instances the occasion of the propagation of contagious diseases. In using the telephone apparatus the breath issues from the mouth of the speaker directly into the speaking-tube. 7
It frequently happens in careless speaking that moisture flows from the mouth into the speaking-tube. The air in the tube, damp and often filled in this manner with disease-germs,
telephone, whereby a contagious disease can be largelyspread. This is completely prevented by the present invention, and similarly the very unpleasant and nauseous smell which one finds associated to such an extent speaking-tube a. This tube is of ebonite, india-rubber, or other suitable material, which is provided on the inner side with several small openings and on the outer side supports both tube-supports d and 6. Both the rubber tubes f and g are drawn over these tube-supports. These are joined at the point h to a rubber tube 2, which ends in a rubber ball. The latter is filled partly with air and partly with disinfectant substance. By pressure on the rubber ball 76 the air streams and thereby the disinfectant through the rubber tubesinto the small ring-shaped tube 5, through its openings c, and extends itself in the speaking-tube.
Pressure on the rubber ball 70 can be occasioned quite as well by taking off the hearing apparatus or by pressure on the signal-knob or in another automatic manner.
Having now described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure .by Letters Patent, isis breathed in by another person who uses the A contrivance for the disinfection of tele phone apparatus comprising a tube in the form of an annular ring placed at the mouth piece of the telephone, said tube having a number of perforations and being provided with a rubber ball connected thereto for the reception of the disinfecting materials.
In witness whereof I'have hereunto signed my name in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
RUD OLPH LAMARCH E.
