To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I,HENRYD.KLoTs,aeiti zen of the United States, residing in the city, county,and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Spinning-Spindles, ot' which the following is a specification. j
My invention relates to that class of spinning-spindles wherein the supporting and bearing tube of the spindle-blade is con nected yieldingly to the spindle rail or base, with the object ot obviating the vibration due to an unbalanced load.
My invention is'particularly applicable to spindles of this class in which thevspindleblade is constituted with a medial spring to co-operate with the yielding connection of the bearing, and also those in which the step for the spindle-blade is detached from the supporting and bearing tube; but it is also applicable to those in which the bolster and step bearings are combined in an integral tube.
Among the objects of my invention are to simplify and improve the means of connecting the supporting and bearing tube yieldingly to the rail or base to increase and improve the oil supply for the spindle, to provide a better step for the spindle-blade when an independent step is used, and to improve the yielding connection of the tube and rail or base with respect to the spring-spindle when used. I attain these and other important ends by myvinvention, of which the following is a detailed description.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification, in which like parts are denoted by the same letters in all the figures.
Figure l is a side elevation of a spinningspindle embodying my invention. Fig. 2 is plan view of the same. Fig. 3 is a sectional elevation on the line 3' 3, Fig. 4. Fig. 4 is a sectional plan view on the line 4 4, Fig. 3, parts being taken away.
A denotes the spindle-blade; which, in this example of my invention, is constituted with a reduced portion forming a spring B intermediate the upper bobbin-holding and lower bearing portions of the blade.
B denotes the tube which supports the spindle-bladel laterally and forms a bolster-bearing therefor, but which tubeI have here shown as independent of the step C on which the foot of the spindleblade rests.
I form the supporting and bearing tube B with an annular liange D and connect the tube yieldingly to the base-piece E, which is I to be attached to and becomes practically part of the rail, by forming said base-piece E with aprefe'rably circular box E to receive tually remove all injurious vibrations of the spindle.
I. form the'base-piece E with a chamber K below the box F to inclose the lower ends of the spindle and the tube B and hold a large supply of oil,and to the same endiI form the box-cover I with a neck L surrounding the upper end of the'tube B, the flange D and the tubeB being apertured to form oil-passages leading to the bearing-surfaces. Further, I rest the independent step C loosely upon a yielding cushion M in the'bottom of the oilchamber K, and I concave the bearing N of said step on a sphere having its center substantially in the centerof thepacking-rings G H, so that said step need not play laterally with the lateral yielding of the spindle, as the tube B swings on its cushions almost as though swiveled.
uAs a convenient means for holding the spindle-blade in its bearing, while readily allowing its removal, I form the box-cover I with an annular ring O to receive the flange P on the lower end of the spindle-whirl, and pivot upon said ring a semiannular plate O', having a recess O2 in its free end to swing over and retain the whirl-flange P, the recess O2 engaging a headed stud O3 on the ring O.
I claim as my inventionl. The combination,with the spindle-blade ICO and its supporting and bearing tube provided with an annular fiange,of a base-piece formed with a circular box to contain said flange, a detachable cover to be screwed upon said box, formed with a neck to surround the tube, and cushions compressed between said annular flange and the bottom and the cover of the box, substantially as hereinbefore set forth.
2. The combination, with the spindle blade constituted with a spring intermediate its bobbin-holding and bearing portions, and its supporting and bearing tube provided with an annular flange, of a base-piece formed with a box to contain said flange, a cover for said box and cushions interposed between said flange and the bottom and the cover of the box, substantially as hereinbefore set forth.
3. The combination, With the spindle blade and its whirl having a flange and the spindlebearing,of a flange retaining piece pivoted at the side of the spindle and having a slot in its free end and a fixed headed stud to engage said slot and hold said retaining piece and hence Whirl vertically and laterally, substantially as hereinbefore set forth.
