MUSICAL CLOCK.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, THEoDoRE A. KoHN, of the city, county, and State ot' New York, have invented a new Mode of Making a Musical or Cuckoo Clock, by means of attaching this improvement to -an ordinary striking clock, and I do hereby declare that the following is a full and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon.

The nature ot'myinvention consists, iirst,in providingtwo upright plates, (marked A in the drawings,) which I attach parallel and at right angles to the sides ot' the ordinary strikingwheel, the same plates being perforated to admit the 'pivots b of two or more levers, (marked B,`) which levers are connected with two or more bellows and organ-pipes, (marked (2,) by means ot' the wires G, connect-ing with the wires H at the joints J. l further attach a plate (marked D) on the right or running part ofthe clock, carryin g a Wire, K, in which I insert a wire swinging lever, E, on the farther end ot' which I place the carved iigure of a cuckoo, the same as in ordinary cuckoo-clocks. lfurthermore attach a wire (marked F) to the upper lock-work rock-shaft ofthe striking part, which wire I run in a parallel line to the swinging lever E where it ascends or descends, as the case may be, and presses in the manner of a cam against a pivot running through the swinging lever E. Now, -when the clock is about to strike, the curved portion F of the wire F is pressed downward, thereby bringing out the bird by pressing against the pivot L, running through the swin ging lever (marked E) whenever the lever F is depressed by the striking mechanism of the clock. At the same time the levers B are raised by the pegs in the striking-wheel lifting up the levers connecting with the bellows, and thereby producing the musical sound as in ordinary cuckoo-clocks. When the clock is done striking` the bird is brought inside the clock-case by a coiled spring, m, attached to the swinging lever in the same manner as in the ordinary cuckooclock. Now, I allege that by the attachment of the parts below claimed to any ordinary striking clock I can make a cuckoo-clock out of the same'.

I do not claim the construction of the levers B nor the swinging lever E, neither the tintes C nor the bird or ordinary mechanism of the cuckoo-clock.

What- I claim as my invention is- The construction of two (2) L-shaped plates, (marked A,) in combination with the plate D, having the wire K, and the manner ot' attaching the swinging lever (marked E) thereto, as

shown and described.
