UNITED STATES PATENT QEEIcE IVILLIAM NEELY JASKEY AND EDWARD SAMUEL ELSE, OF LOGAN, UTAH TERRITORY.
AUTOMATIC ELECTRIC GAS-LIGHTER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Application filed August 20, 1894.
Patent No. 541,549, dated June 25, 1895.
Serial No. 520,864. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that we, WILLIAM NEELY JAS- KEY and EDWARD SAMUEL ELsE, citizens of. the United States, residing at Logan, in Cache county, Utah Territory, have invented new and useful Improvements in Automatic Electrical Gas-Lighters, of which the following is a specification.
Our invention relates to improvements in automatic electrical gas lighters. We attain these objects bythe mechanism illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a side elevation of the arm of a gas bracket or pendant fitted up with our apparatus. Fig. 2 is an alternate view of fitting the fan to a pendent stem.
Parts of the figures are broken oil. for want of space.
Our invention consists of an automatic electrical gas lighter, having one wire from battery connected on gas pipe at the meter and the other wire a connected to a spark coil and running along elbow dand extending through the fan support I) but insulated from b and makinga connection with fan at c. From fan the electrical current runs along the fan support Z) which is insulated from fixture d and then through the magnet 6 making a connection with the main elbow d at burner holder d. Vhen current runs through magnet it causes the armf to vibrate making spark to light gas. The support of armf is insulated from the burner holder d. The elbow cock at g has an insulated bushing hbreaking the current on the arm cl". The cock g has a projection extendingtherefrom and making the connection with the projection on the elbow d; also a projection from the arm d" extending over the insulated bushing h. By turning gas on the projection, from the cock 9 connects with the projecting arm f on burner holder d making a complete current. \Vhen the gas is turned 01f the current is broken. \Vhen the gas is lighted the heat of the flame raises the fan, breaking the current at c. \Vhen gas is 5' blown out the fant' falls making complete connection at c and lighting gas. The fan 1' has a screw weight 71. connected on one end to regulate the pressure and make the fan balance, or nearly so, in order that the flame may raise the fan for breaking the connection at c. The connection at c and f are made of platinum.
It will be understood that the foregoing is given by way of illustration, and that the shapes, materials and proportions of the parts may be varied in many ways within the scope of our invention.
IVhat we claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States, is-
1. In an automatic electrical gas lighter the combination of a burner, a fan support ex tending above the bu rner, a fan pivoted to the support and electrical contacts also mounted on the fan support arranged to be actuated by the movement of the fan.
2. In an automatic electrical gas lighter the combination of a fan pivoted to the support and electrical contacts also mounted on the fan support arranged to be balanced by the screw weight running on the screwed pin at tached to the fan.
