Be it'known that I, Cnsnnns M. Rnonns, of Wayne, in the county of Delaware, State of Pennsylvania, have invented certainnew nn-d useful Improvements in Gas-Engines, of
which the following is a'specifioation, due ref .erenoe lieinghadto the accompanying drew ings, forming a part hereof.
-My invention relntesgenerally to that construction of engine best'fadepted for the use of gas,eilorthe likeiu generatingpower, and has special reference to certain novel features of construction and operation in a preferred hori-' 'zontal type of engine of the character stated,

Referring now to the drawings in which the several parts are indicated by numerals, similar numerals denoting like parts wherever found, 1 is a fly or-driving-wheel (the engine is edspted for the use of twosuch wheels, one
being shown in dotted lines in Fig l) and. 2 the double-crankshaft on which the same is mounted, proper hearings being provided for said shaft. Connected to said crank-shaft 2 are two piston-stems 3 each provided with a piston-head working simultaneously, that is to-say,mal1ing in and out strokes together in their respective cylinders 5. I
Each cylinder 5 is provided with a valve water jacket 6, divided by partitions forming two valve compartments or chambers 6 6 and. having two port or valve openingsin communication with the chamber of the cylinder 5, each provided, preferably, with e poppet- -valve 8 8 mounted for end to end movementonly; and further provided on its under surface or bottom with an ad mission and exhaust port respectively} and 10,in open communication with the respective chambers 6 6 of 7 said jacket 6. A high-speed-governor 11 is suitably mount ed on e shaft 7 properly journcled '1 hearings adjacent to the crank-shaft 2 and ste'rmeiliate the two cylinders 5. The respective ends of said shaft 7 are provided with a cog-gear 12 meshing with an intermediate gear 12 and the latter in turn with a gear 13 mounted on the crank-shaft 2'(the gearing'heing preferably about two to one). The said shaft 7- also carries two double cam-wheels 16 16", and
motion is imparted to said shaft 7 and its parts through thegears 13 and 1 2.
The cam-wheels 16v are double in construction, so to speak, that is to say: two cams in one integral construction, one of said cams l6 having an even periphery, while its component cam 16 has an uneven or irregular shaped periphery or face that at one point thereof merges and becomes flush with the peripheryof its component part 16, for a purpose yet tobe explained.
