1 SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 539,721, dated May 21, 1895. Application filed March 31,1894. Renewed March 28, 1895. Serial No. 543,595. (No model.)

To all whom, it natty concern:

Be it known that I, JOHN E. BISCOE, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of LittleRock, in the county of Pulaski and State of Arkansas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Fireman and Hose Elevators; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact descriptionof the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the artto which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying'drawings, and to letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.

.This invention has relation to certain new and useful improvements in firemen and hose elevators, and it consists in the novel construction and combination of parts, all as hereinafter described, and pointed out in the appended claims.

The object of the invention is to provide simple and convenient means for elevating firemen and hose to a burning building.

Referring to the accompanying drawings, the letter A designates a guide rail or track which is designed to be supported alongor around the upper portion of a building by means of suitable brackets.

B designates a truck adapted to run on the said guide rail or track. Said truck comprises a pair of wheels C, 0, adapted to the track and journaled upon studs carried bya bar D. Connected to said bar D is a depending arm E, whose lower portion is bent back upon itself, forming bearings for a short shaft upon which is journaled a grooved sheave or pulley F.

G is a guide carried by the arm E and adapted to embrace loosely the under side of the truck, and therebysteady the truck.

Fig. 3 is a side elevation of car- Made fast to the armE is one end of a rope H, said rope passing downwardly and around a grooved pulley I of a carriage device, thence passing upwardly and around the sheave or pulley F, and thence to or within reach of the ground.

The carriage comprises a frame J in which the pulley I is journaled,said frame havinga hook at K to engage with the firemans belt, and a hook or belayiug pin L to which the rope may be made fast by the fireman at any point he may wish to stop. At the lower end portion of the said frame is a swiveled ring or loop M for the fireman to place his leg through.

The track or guide rail may also be employed as the support for a suitable trolley fire escape device.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is

1. A fireman and hose elevator, comprising a guide rail or track, a truck adapted to run thereon, a carriage having a foot ring, a belt hook, and a belaying hook, and a rope run through pulleys on said truck and carriage and running to the ground at one end and to the truck at the other end, substantially as specified.

2. A fireman and hose elevator, comprising a guide rail or track, a truck adapted to run thereon, and comprising the wheels 0, C, the depending pulley F, and the guide G, a carrier comprising a frame, a pulley I journaled therein, the hooks K and L thereon, and the ring M, and a rope connected to the truck at one end, passing thence around the pulley I, thence around the pulley F, and thence to the ground, substantially as specified.
