GABRIEL DUPONT-DENNIS, OF NANTES, FRANCE.
APPARATUS FOR TREATING VEGETABLE OR LIKE MATERIALS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 537,443, dated April 16, 1895.
Application filed August 12, 1893- Serial No. 483,015. (No model.) Patented in France December 3, 1891, No. 217,822; in Belgium May 11, 1892, No. 99,641, and in Spain June 18,1892,No. 13,389.
To 00% whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, GABRIEL DUPONT-DEN- NIS, a citizen of the French Republic, residing at Nantes, France, have invented an Improvement in Apparatus for Treating Vegetable or Like Materials, (for which I have obtained Letters Patent in France for fifteen years,
dated December 3, 1891, No. 217,822; in Belgium for fifteenyears, dated May 11, 1892, No. 99,641, and in Spain for twenty years, dated June 18, 1892, No. 13,389,) of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part thereof.
My present invention relates to apparatus for treating vegetable and like materials for preserving them; and said invention consists in the arrangement and combination of parts hereinafter described and claimed.
In the drawings Figure 1 is a side view of a single vessel of my improved apparatus. Fig. 2 is a central vertical section of the same with the cover applied thereto. Fig. 3 is a plan view of the same. Fig. 4 is a side View of the clamping frame of my improved apparatus. Fig. 5 is a top view of the same. Fig. 6 is a vertical sectional view of the apparatus, showing the materialcontaining vessels in place and in full lines.
Upon reference to the drawings, A indicates a clamping frame which is composed of asuitable number of side bars Ct (four being shown) united by spiders b at the top and bottom thereof. Through a threaded hole in one of the spiders b, preferably the upper spider, a screw 0 is adapted to pass, at the lower end of which is secured a follower plate cl so that when the screw 0 is screwed up or down, by any suitable means, the follower plate is caused to travel up or down within the clamping-frame A for purposes which will be hereinafter described.
Brefers to the vessels which are to contain the vegetables or other materials to be treated and which are shown in detail in Figs. 1, 2 and 3. These vessels B. are provided with covers 00, (Fig. 2) between which and the upper edge of the vessel there may be interposed a suitable packing. The bottom 6 of each of thesevessels is at a distance from the lower edge of the body portion, and there is suplow the said false bottom and to allow liquid that may be contained in the material to pass into the space formed between the bottom proper e and the perforated false bottom f.
In the body of the vessel between the lower edge thereof and the bottom eor in the lower edge, are perforations g which allow of the water circulating between the various vessels B when the apparatus is in use as will be hereinafter more fully described.
0 designates an outer water containing vessel which may be of any suitable form and of sufficient size to receive the clamping frame A with the vessels B secured therein.
When it is desired to put my improved apparatus into use it is merely necessary to place a small quantity of water in each of the material containing vessels B, which water is contained. in the space between the bottom proper e and the false perforated bottom f. The material to be treated is next placed within the vessels B and the covers on placed thereon, when the vessels may be placed in the frame A and securely held therein by causing the follower d to press upon the top vessel of the series and thus securely hold all of them closed and in place. The frame A with the vessels B secured therein are next placed within the outer water-containing vessel C. By constructing the vessels B with perforations g in the body thereof as described, the boiling water contained in outer vessel 0 is allowed to circulate between each of the vessels B, that is to say, between the cover :20 of one vessel and the bottom 6 of the next vessel above.
By my invention I am enabled to cook the materials by steam in closed vessels without having any of the material come in contact with the water or with the fire, and at the same time said materials are inclosed on all sides by tlfe heating medium.
Having described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, 1s
The combination of a series of vessels B,
ing said frame, whereby a circulation of the to cooking fluid may be had around and between the vessels B substantially as and for the purposes specified.
GABRIEL DUPONT-DENNIS.
