"ATENT FFICE@ LEE H. WILLIAMS, OF INDIANAPOLIS, INDIANA.
WATER-CLOSET VALVE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 535,338, dated March 5, 1895. Application led .February 23, 1894. Serial No. 501.195. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Beit known that I, LEE H. WILLIAMS, a citi zen of the United States, residing at Indianapolis, in the county of Marion and State of Indiana, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Water-Closet Valves; and I do declarethe following to be a full, clear, and eXact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
This invention relates to useful and new improvements in water closet valves.
The object of this invention is to simplify the construction of devices of this character, and make them safe and reliable in use by means of a single valve and the automatic 1ever, which is operated by the seat, and also to arrange the parts of the valve in such a manner that it can be easily manufactured and applied to any closet bowl. The parts are strong and durable and effective in the desired results.
With these objects in view the invention consists in certain novel details of construction and combination and arrangements of parts to be hereinafter described and pointed out particularly in the appended claim.
Referring to the accompanying drawings,
Figure l is a sectional viewconstructed in accordance with my invention. Fig. 2 is a side view, and Fig. 3 is a plan view.
Similar letters of reference in the several views indicate the same parts.
Referring to the drawings, A is the bottom section of the valve. B is the middle section, the bottom part of which is screwed into the section A, and the top part is screwed to the The cap D is screwed to C. The lower section A has the threads a for pipe connections to source of water supply.
G is the rubber valve and is held in place by means of a nut on the lower end of the stem and g is the upper valve seat.
F is the valve stem.
H is the spring and has bearing on the washer J on top and seats on h of the stem.
I is the packing between the washer J and `the cap D.
The valve stem is pivoted to the lever at c.
ris the recess in the lever to receive the valve stem.
E is the lever and is pivoted to the jaws d with the screw pin e.
In operation, the seat of the closet presses the lever E downward until the rubber valve G presses against the seat g, which closes the opening O, and the water passes through the inlet a, up and through a into the sealed tank under pressure. After the weight of the person on the seat is released the valve falls and closes the opening a, and opens 0,which allows the water in the tank which is under pressure to pass through the outlet ZJ into the closet bowl.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
A water closet valve comprising the conical lower section having its lower end fitted for connection with the source of supply and a side opening at its upper portion leading to the storage tank, a second section B mounted upon said lower section and communicating with the closet, an upper cylindrical section c upon said second section having a cap provided with a laterally extending upwardly turned lug, a conical valve located in the lower section having its upper end closing the opening to the second section when the valve is raised, a valve stem projecting upward through the cap, an operating lever pivoted to the lug and valve stem, and a spring surrounding the valve stem within the cylindrical upper section for keeping the valve normally closed, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
LEE I-I. WILLIAMS.
