G. W SNYDER. PRBSSER GONE. POINT FOR ROBBINS.
No. 534,724. P a,tente d Feb. 26, 1895.
NITED STATES ries.
PATENT GEORGE W. SNYDER, OF HERKIMER, ASSIGNOR TO TOMPKINS BROTHERS, OF TROY, NEW YORK.
PRESSER-CONE POINT FOR ROBBINS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent N 0. 534,724, dated February 26, 1895.
Application filed December 21, 1893. semi No. 494,292. (NomodeL) To all whom-it may concern: I
Be it known that I, GEORGE W. SNYDER, of the village of Herkimer, county of Herkimer, and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Presser Cone Points for Bobbins, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to the points of presser cones, which are used in connection with yarn bobbins, and the object and purpose of my invention is to combine with the apex of the presser cone an adjustable bearing point for contact with the bobbin spool, with such bearing point made of leather or other analogous material which will not cut into or mar the spool where in contact with it; said conepoint in cross-section havinga frustum-form and being mounted on the outer end of a spindle which is adapted to rotate in asocket formed in the cone presser proper, and said spindle being provided with a stem that is threaded into the latter so as to hear at its lower end on'the socket bottom, and at its upper end where threaded into the spindle to be adjustable therein as to outward projection of the latter, and said stem having thereon a jam nut to retain it as adjusted.
Accompanying this specification to form a part of it there is a plate of drawings containing two figures illustrating my invention, with the same designation of parts by letter reference used in both of them.
Of the illustrations Figure 1- is a vertical section taken centrally through the bobbin cone and spool, and the presser cone containing my improvement. Fig. 2 isa perspective of the cone point, its spindle, stem and jam nut, shown as removed from the presser cone.
The several parts of the apparatus thus illustrated are designated by letter reference and the function of the parts is described as follows:
The letter B designates the bobbin, made with the cone 0, and cylinder S, which are of the usual and ordinary construction.
The letter P designates the presser cone arranged to have its cone-form side parallel to the bobbin cone, with the bobbin and presser cone operated by any of the well known means employed, and which are not shown.
The letter D designates a socket that is downwardly projected within the presser cone P, from its upper end, where rounded ofi at a, and made exteriorly flat at (1 The letter A designates the presser cone bearing point, which is of a frustum form in vertical section, and is made preferably of leather.
The letter I designates a spindle arranged within said socket D, and on the outer end of which spindle the presser cone point A is mounted so as to turn with said spindle.
The letter N designates a stem which at its upper end is threaded into the spindle, and at its lower end is made with the bearing point 19 adapted to turn on the socket bottom (1 Theletter J designates a jam nut that is threaded on to the stem N, and adapted to be screwed upwardly thereon so as to bear on the lower end 6, of the spindle and thus secure the spindle on its threaded vertical adjustment on the stem, which may be increased or diminished by freeing the jam nut, and
screwing the stem into or out from the spindleand then screwing up the jam nut.
While I prefer to make the adjustable presser cone point of leather, from the fact that it is softer than the wood spool and will not wear into the latter, I do not limit my invention thereto, and any other analogous substance may be employed that will perform the same functions in the same manner.'
Having thus described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. The combination with a bobbin having a cone and cylinder, of a presser cone made with a spindle provided with a stem that is adjustably connected to said spindle, and a bearing having a leather covered cone point on the end of said spindle, adapted to extend beyond the presser cone and bear on said cylinder, substantially in the manner as and for the purposes set forth.
2. The combination with the'bobbin B, having a cone 0, the cylinder S, of the presser cone P, provided with socket D, the spindle I, day of March, 1893, in the presence of the two mounted in said socket and carrying the witnesses whose names are hereto written. leather cone-point A, the stem N, threaded into said spindle and carrying a jam-nut GEORGE WV; SNYDER. 5 J, substantially as and for the purposes set Witnesses:
forth. E. B. MITCHELL,
Signed at Herkiiner, New York, this 16th C. L. EARL, Jr.
