OF SAME PLACE.
BUGGY-TOP SUPPORT.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 532,726, dated January 15, 1895.
Application filed March 13, 1894.
To all whom, it may concern:
Be it known that I, CHARLES DEPLANTY, a citizen of the United States, residing-at Coffeyville, in the countyof Montgomery, in the State of Kansas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Buggy-Top Supports, of which the following is a full, clear,
and exact description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which form a part of this specification. I
My invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in buggy top supports and-my invention consists in certain features of novelty hereinafter described and pointed out in the claims.
Figure I,- shows a buggy top with my improved buggy top support applied thereto. Fig. II, shows my improved buggy'top sup port in its relation to the angle iron for limiting its backward movement. Fig. III,- is a detailed perspective of my improved bugg top support. Figs. IV and V are respectively a side elevation and a rear elevation of a buggy body showing my improved support applied to the top.'
Similar numerals refer to similar parts throughout the several views.
1, is arm of the support, provided with the collar 2, adapted to be set on the stay rod 3.
4., is an extension or lug extending forward of the collar. I
5, is a horizontal arm of the angle iron, which is secured by the arm 6, to the buggy seat.
7, is a lug or extensionof the collar with which the stay 13, engages when the top is let down.
8, is a sleeve support formed in one piece and adapted to be sprung over and embrace the top bow, and is provided with the cars 10 by which it is pivotally secured to'the perforated lug 12, on the arm 1 by the bolt 11. The sleeve is provided with the lining 9 of rubber or other material, to prevent rubbing the top bow 14:, as it slides, thereon.
I am aware that there are buggy top supports in use consisting of a pivoted arm provided with a support to receive the top bow and means for limiting its backward movement, particularly that of 'Willis W. Krutsch,
for which application for Letters Patent has Serial No; 503,477. (No model.)
same, by jolting or otherwise the top bow can not become disengaged from the support; second, by providing the angle iron, secured to the buggy seat, having the arm 5 with which the lug or extension 4, shall engage.
when the top is down, the support may be applied to and used on any buggy, while with other forms of the support and especially those in which the lug is provided to engage the shifting rail, the support cannot be used on buggies not provided with a shifting rail. Whatl claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. A buggy top support consisting of an arm, a collar upon which the arm is mounted and by which it is pivotally attached to a buggy, a lug on the collar to engage the stay when the top is let down, a sleeve support at one end of the arm adapted to embrace and slide upon the top bow, ears on the sleeve by which the same is pivotally attached to the arm, a lug on the other end of the arm and means to engage the lug to limit the backward and downward movement of the support; substantially as shown and described and for the purpose set forth.
2. The combination with a buggy top of a buggy top support consisting of an arm, a collar upon which the arm is mounted adapted to be pivotally attached to the buggy, a lug on the collar to engage the stay when the top is being let down, a sleeve support pivotally attached to the end of the arm adapted to embrace andslide upon the top bow, a lug on the other end of the arm, an angle iron, the vertical arm of which is secured to the'buggy seat its horizontal arm engaging the lug on the arm of the support to limit the backward and downward movement of the support; substantially as shown and described and for the purpose set forth.
CHARLES DEPL ANTY.
