Myinvention relates to an apparatiisfor removingstamped metalarticles from male dies. It is well known that in stamping metal r cylinders and other like articles great difticulty is often encountered in removing the articles from the male die, owing to the tenacity with which the shaped metal adheres to the die, this being especially true where 2o an attempt is made to stamp up a cylinder of any considerable length.
The object of my invention is to provide means whereby, when the male die, with the stamped article clinging to it, is raised out of the female die, heat may be applied to the entire outer surface of the shaped metal, so as to expand and loosen the article on the die.
With this object in view, my invention con sists in the novel construction and arrange- 3o ment of parts hereinafter described and claimed.

4o Referring to the drawings, D represents a hollow cylinder made of any suitable material, and formed in sections, hinged together, as at 3. The upper end of this cylinder is partly covered, the diameter of the central openingj being but slightly greater than the diameter of the male die or plunger. In this cylinder are a number of perforations 5, in which are inserted inlet-pipes 6, which communicate, through branch-pipes 7, with a 5o main pipe 8, the latter being connected to a suitable gas-supply D. The main pipe and branch pipes are made of flexible material, in order to facilitate the placing in position and removal of the cylinder D, the latter be- '55 ing provided with handles F. Openings 9 formedin convenient places in the cylinder serve to admit drafts of air.

In operation the cylinder D is placed around 6o the suspended die and the stamped article thereon, when the upper end of the cylinder will rest on the upper edge of the article, as seen at 4. Gas being then admitted to the cylinder through the various pipes and lighted, the heat developed, acting directly on the stamped article, will cause expansion of the latter, when the apparatus, which, as beforeV stated, is suspended from the upper edge oi'- the stamped article, will by gravity gradually 7o force thek article oit from the die. ,By this means all danger of cracking or breaking the stamped article in the act of removing it is obviated.
Having thus described my invention, what 7 5 I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. An apparatus vfor removing stamped metal articles from male dies, consisting of a perforated cylinder adapted to encompass the 8o stamped article on the die and to be suspended from its'top edge, a gas-supply, a main pipe connected therewith, branch pipes con nected with Ythe main-pipe, and inlet-pipes 'leading from the branch pipes into the cylin- 8 5 der through the perforations in the latter, whereby when the gas is ignited and the article Vexpanded by the applied heatthe downward pressure exerted by the weight of the apparatus will cause the removal of the arti- 9o cle from the die.
