No. 581,940. Patented Jam. l, 1895.

BUTTON.-
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 531,940, dated January l, 1895.
Application filed December 16, 1891. Serial No. 415,309 (No model.) d
To @ZZ when?, it may concern.-
Be it known that I, RUDOLPH HEMANN, of Hoboken, Hudson county, and State of New lTersey, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Buttons, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates more particolari y to trousersj buttons and it consists of the construction and novel arrangement of parts as hereinafter set forth.
Theobjectofmyimprovementis toprovidea trousers button in which a low grade or cheap metal may be employed, but which when completed, will be strong and serviceable, and a further object is to provide a button in which two or more colors or designs may be presented to View.
In the accompanying drawings Figure l is a front View of a button embodying my improvement. Fig. 2 is a back view. Fig. 3 is a section.
Referring by letter to the drawings, A designates the back plate of the usual ooncavo convex form.
A is an intermediate plate depressed or ooncaved at its central portion as shown and having the annular outwardly extending bead or rim a. The plate A is somewhat smaller in circumference than the plate A, and eyes a are punched through both these plates as shown.
B designates an outer annular plate having its inner edge turned inward, as at ZJ, and impinges against the surface of the plate A. The outer edge of the plate B is turned in ward, at substantially right angles to the surface of the plate, and then outward forming the annular rim or channel b.
It will be seen that the annular plate B closely embraces the bead or rim a of the plate A and the plate A is, therefore, held in position by the plateB.
B is an annular rim embracing the edges of the plates A, B, and serving to lock the several parts firmly together. lt will be seen that this button consists ot' four parts, the back plate A, the intermediate plate A', the annular plate B and the locking rim B.
Byemploying dierent metals for the parts A', B, B', or by japanning a part or all of the plates in dierent colors, or by providing the plate B with designs, etched or otherwise, the button will present a very ornamental appearance.
Having. described my invention, what I claim is- In a button the combination of the back plate, the intermediate plate having the annular bead or rim a, the annular plate B havin g the inwardly turned edge b, and the outer edge turned inward forming the lange or,
channel h', and the locking rim B', substantially as specified.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specilication in the presence of two subscribing witnesses. u
RUDOLPH HORMANN.
