Be it known'that .I, CLAUDE JOSEPH OL- LAGN1ER,a citizen of the French Republic,
' residing at Tours, France, haveinventedcertain new and useful Improvements in Machines for Pulping Apples, Pears, &c., (for which I have obtained a patent in France, dated October 22, 1892, No. 224,994,) of which the following is a description.
My invention has for its object a novel .pulping machine for apples, pears, &c., that will make a thoroughly'fine pulp, not crushed, and whereby the skin of the fruit remains nearly whole, theseeds are not crushed and stones or hard. substances that may be found between the fruitwill be easilyremoved.
In o'rder'to better explain the mechanism and working of my machine, I have illustrated the same in the'annexed drawings, which make part of this specification, and wherein-.-
Figure 1 shows a vertical "section of the ma-' chineon the line cc0c of' Fig. 2, and. Fig. 2 shows a sideview of the'machine.
' A glance at the drawings shows that themachine consists essentially of four pistons, coupled together two by two, by means of rodso, one couple of these pistons O O moving in a direction at right angles to the motion'of the other couple." These pistons are equipped at their inside with a friction roller 0, running on the periphery of a stationary cam E. The rotating drum F is provided with four apertures f, wherein the pistons are moving outward *and inward in accordance with the sinuosities of the cam E, These parts are located in a casing G, provided with longitudinal slots e and with an opening T for the discharge of stones. The casingGis connected with the hopper K wherein the apples that are to be pulped, are fed.
The cam E is rigidly mounted upon a'shaft L, that is provided at its end with a tappet M, that rests'upon the nose 2' of a weighted lever N, which lever is pivoted at O. Having now described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1.' In a fruit pulping machine, the combination with a circular casing, of a rotary drum located therein, movable pistons adapted to be actuated at right angles to the axis of the drum located within the same, a normally stationary camadapted to actuate the pistons so as to receive the fruit, compress it against the casing and discharge the same, as the drum is rotated, and means for normally holding the cam against rotation and for automatically releasing the same when any of the pistons meet with more thana predetermined resistance, substantially as shown and described.
2. In 'a fruit pulping machine, the combination with a circular casing, of a rotary drum located therein, a series of movable pistons located within the drum at substantially right angles to the axis thereof, a cam rigidly mounted upon a shaft and adapted to actuate the pistons so as to receive, and compress the fruit against the casing, and discharge the same, as the drum is rotated, a weighted lever, and a tappet rigidly mounted upon the cam shaft and engaging with the weighted lever; the construction being such that the weighted end of the lever will be lifted and the cam rotated with the drum when any of the pistons meet with more than a certain resistance, substantially as described.
3. In a fruit pulping machine, the combination with a circular casingprovided with openings or perforations e in the encircling wall thereof, of a rotary drum located therein, movable pistons adapted to be actuated at right angles to.the axis of the drum located within the same, and a stationary cam adapted to actuate the pistons as the drum is rotated so as H to compress the fruit against the casing adjacent to the openings 6, substantially as shown and described.
4. In a fruit pulping machine, the combination with a circular casing havinga feed opening K, and a discharge opening T, and provided with openings or perforations e in the periphery of the casing between the feed and discharge openings, of a rotary drum located therein, movable pistons adapted to be actu ated at right angles to the axis of the drum located within the'same, and a stationary cam adapted to actuate the pistons so as to receive the fruit, compress it against the casing adjacent to the openings e, and discharge the pulp through the opening T, as the drum is rotated, substantially asshown and described.
5. In a fruit pulping machine, the combina- 4c tion with a circular casing provided with openings or perforations e, and with feed and discharge openings K and T, of a drum F provided with passages f located at right angles to each other and to the axis of the drum, pistons C and O, and D and D, located in the passages f and secured together so as to be actuated in pairs, means for rotating the drum, means for actuating the pistons so as to receive, and compress the fruit and discharge the pulp as the drum is rotated, and means for preventing more than a certain pressure from being exerted by the pistons, substantially as shown and described,
6. In a fruit pulping machine, the combina tion with a circular casing provided with openings or perforations e, and with feed and discharge openings K and T, of a drum F, provided with passages f located at right angles to each other and to the axis of the drum, pistons G and O, and D and D, located in the passages f and secured together so as to be actuated in pairs, means for rotating the drum, a cam E, rigidly mounted upon a revoluble shaft L, and located within the drum and adapted to actuate the pistons as the drum is rotated, a tappet M rigidly secured to the shaft L, anda Weighted lever N, engaging the end of the tappet M,in such manner as to normally prevent the rotation of the shaft L, substantially as shownand described.
