Be 'it known that I, GEORGE H. STRONG, a citizen of the United States, residing atChicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented new and useful Improvements in Cabinets for Advertising Purposes, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to improvements in cabinets for advertising purposes particularly intended for post offices.

The object of the invention is to cheapen the construction of suoli cabinets, and make them more efficient for the purposes intended. i The invention consists substantially in the construction illustratedin the accompanying drawings, described in the specification and hereinafter more particularly pointed out in the claims.

Like letters refer to the same parts in the several iigures of the drawings, in whichy Figure l is a front elevation of a cabinet mounted upon a pedestal with part of suchy pedestal broken away. Fig. 2 is a horizontal transverse section on the line 2-2 of Fig. l. Fig. 3 is a vertical section of the main porp tion of the cabinet on the line 3 3 of Fig. l. Fig. 4 is a longitudinal cross section in detail of two ofthe sliding panels and the frame in which they slide with the cards shown in place.

The cabinet is designed particularly for use in post olices and its purpose being to display advertising cards in a pleasing and atignated by the letters B, B, in the drawings and be formed with receptacles for ink wells as designated by the letters C; recesses for penholders as designated by the letters D and other needful accessories for the use of the patrons of the post office who desire to address an envelope or write a postal card or short letter. Among these may be mentioned a letter scale such as is shown at E in Fig. 1

These cards may be readily inserted in the panels in any convenient way but are preferably slid in from the `side in grooves formed in the frame of Vthe panel before such panel is placed in the cabinet. An entire panel maybe readily removed and one or all of the-cards changed, and this without taking o any cap piece or removing any screws, or the necessity for any implements.

The framework of the movable panels may IOO consist simply of the side and end pieces and the -transverse partition strips which are grooved to receive the advertising cards, the cards themselves forming the main body of the panel, or the panels may be complete in themselves and provided with transverse pockets to receive the cards therein.

By sliding the cards into the pockets in the panels before the panels are inserted in their guideways in the main frame I am enabled to provide a construction whereby transportation is greatly facilitated, as the panels, with the cards are shipped separately from the main body of the cabinet and hence the liability of breakage of the glass fronts of the cabinet is reduced to a minimum.

Upon the top of the main cabinet there may be placed asecond smaller case designated by the letter F in the drawings. This sm aller case may be formed in one piece with the top of the main case or removably connected therewith. This small case should in any event be placed a sufticient distance back of the edge of the main case to leave uncovered the slots G in which the panels are to be'inserted in the main case. The small case may also have advertising cards inserted therein or advertising matter placed on its surface and is usually somewhat ornamental and surmounted by a clock or statuette or something of that nature.

It is obvious that changes may be made in the details of the above described construction without departingA from the essential features thereof, which latter have been set forth, and will now be particularly pointed out in the claims.

What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-

1. An advertising` cabinet comprising a frame having two or more sides or faces, arranged at right angles relative to each other, vertical guide ways or channels formed in each side or face, arranged in pairs, a panel frame adapted to be received removably in each pair of guide ways, said panel frames being provided with independent pockets or compartments, arranged horizontally therein, and adapted to receive advertising cards therein, as and for the purpose set forth.

2. In an advertising cabinet an upright frame or casing, comprising two or more pairs of vertically arranged guide ways, the contiguous or adjacent pairs being arranged angularly relative to each other forming an open framework, removable panels adapted to be received in said pairs of vertical guideways, each panel being provided with a series of transverse independent pockets or compartments adapted to receive advertising cards; as and for the purpose specified.

Inan advertising cabinet a stand, a writing desk supported thereby, a cabinet supported by said desk, comprising an upright frame Work, formed of two or more sides or faces arranged at right angles relative to each other, a Icoping at the top of each side or face forming a seat, a supplementary cabinet adapted to be received on said seat and to receive advertising cards, two or more sets of vertical guide ways formed in each face or side and through said coping in the first mentioned cabinet, a removable panel adapted to be received in each set of guide ways, each having a series of independent transverse pockets arranged therein, adapted to receive advertising cards, said supplementary cabinet arranged out of line with said vertical guide ways, as and for the purpose set forth.

In an advertising cabinet a writing desk having ink-wells and pen racks formed therein, and having a seat for a cabinet on the top thereof, a suitable support for said desk, in combination with an upright rectangular frame or casin g having the sides or faces thereof cut away as shown, a coping arranged at the top of each side or face, and joining the edge portions and adapted to form a seat, a pair of vertical guide ways formed in each side or face near the edge thereof, said coping having passage ways communicating with said pairs of guide Ways,aremovable panel adapted to be received in each pair of guide ways, thus forming a recess or compartment in said frame work between said pairs of guide ways, each of said panels being provided with a series of transverse pockets or compartments adapted to receive advertising cards, as and for the purpose set forth.
