GAME APPARATUS.

To all whom it may concern: 7 3 Be it known that I, VICTOR KOBLER-STAU- DER, a citizen of the Republic of Switzerland, residing at Rorschach, Switzerland, have invented a certain new and 'useful'Game Apparatus, (for which I have obtained a patent in Switzerland, No. 8,117, hearing date February 11, 1894,) of which the following is a specification.
My invention has relation to a toy for spinning teetotums, and it consists essentially in a support for the teetotum adapted to be held in the hand, and means for revolving the teetotum about its axis of rotation and projecti 5 ing the same from its said means, consisting of two parallel friction plates of unequal length between which the pin or spindle of the teetotum is held, and means for imparting a rectilinear motion to the longer plate, whereby the teetotum is revolved about its axis along the fixed plate and released after it has cleared the end of said plate. r
The invention further consists in structural features and combinations of co-operative 2 5 parts, as will now be fully described, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, in which-- j Figure 1 is a side elevation partly in section. Fig. 2 is a top plan view of a toy embodyin g my invention, the operative elements being shown in their normal position, and Fig; 3 is a side elevation showing the device in po sition ready for operation.
In the above drawings I have illustrated a 5 toy for spinning teetotums having the gen-- eral form of a revolver or pistol, provided with means for successively feeding a number of teetotums to the spinning devices, as an attractive and very convenient form of toy,
though I do not desire to limit myself thereto,
as the construction can be variously modified without departing from the nature and spirit of my invention.

The barrel of the revolver is constructed in 8 5 two parts in the form of flat parallel bars or plates that constitute at the same time the spinningand ejectingdevices. The plate 10 is shorterthan the plate 01 and is secured to the enlarged portion e of the bolt 6 while the plate (1 has endwise motion in the slot of said 5 enlarged portion, whereby friction surfaces are provided between which a teetotum spindle is revolved and ejected by said movable plate. At its rear end the movable barrel section or plate 01 is provided with a rearwardly roo projecting pin 9 that has endwise motion in the bearing on standardd hereinbefore referred to, and on said pin is mounted a coiled actuating spring, f. The movable plate d has formed therein a vertical slot 61, in the plane of the peripheral notches in the cylinder head 71: when said plate is in its normal position, so as to allow the upper half of a teetotum spindle to pass through said slot when the cylinder head It? is revolved under the stross of its spring. The plate w has secured thereto a spacing-and abutment block 10' shown in dotted lines in Figs. 1 and 3 and in full lines in Fig. 2, that serves to hold a teetotum fed to the barrel in an upright position when the movable plate (1 of said barrel is moved back into position for operation; that is to say, when the upper half of a teetotum spindle 19 has been moved through the vertical slot d in barrel plate at by the cylinder head 7;, the further movement of said head and teetotum is prevented by the fixed barrel plate to as clearly shown in Fig. 2.
If the trigger c is pulled back against the stress of its spring 11 when the parts are in their normal positions, Figs. 1 and 2, with a teetotum pin in the barrel, the section or plate (I thereof will also be moved back against the stress of the spring f on its pin g through the medium of the detent D pivoted tothe rear end of the said plate, and through the medium of the arm 0 of lever c in engagement with said detent. When the lever c is about to reach the limit of its rearward motion the inclined face 61 of the detent D will come in contact with the lug or projection on on the upper end of standard a of the stock A so that by a slight further backward motion of the trigger c the detent will be lifted out of engagement with the lever arm by said lug a, thereby releasing the plate at which under the stress of its spring f will be shot forward carrying with it the teetotum, and at the same time revolving or spinning the same by the frictional contact of the rapidly moving plate 01 upon the upper portion of the spindle 10 of the teetotum P bearing against the vertical face of the fixed plate w, and as soon as said pin 19 has cleared the plate to the teetotum will be released. If the trigger c is now released, the spring 45 will return the lever c to its normal position, Fig. 1. The arm 0 of said lever during its forward motion coming in contact with the inclined face d of the detent D will lift the latter until the said arm has moved clear of the detent hook, which will now drop into position to be again engaged by the lever arm, as shown in Figs. 1 and 2.
As soon as the teetotum has been ejected by the forward movement of the plate cl the revoluble head of the cylinder b will be released and revolved in the direction of arrow, Fig. 2, and the next succeeding teetotum will be brought in line with and will pass through the slot 0 in said cylinder ready to be spun and ejected, as described.
An adjustable stop, as a screw 5 in the stock A serves as an abutment for, and limits the rearward motion of the lever 0'.
After all the teetotums have been ejected, they are returned to the cylinder by revolving the same, in a direction opposite to that indicated by arrow, Fig 2, whereby the spring Z is again wound up.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new therein, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-- 1. A toy for spinning teetotums comprising a revoluble disk provided with peripheral slots or notches for the lower half of the pin or spindle of the teetotums, a support for said disk provided with a suitable handle, spinning devices consisting of parallel plates of unequal length between which the upper half of a teetotum fits, the longer plate provided with a vertical slot in the plane of rotation of the disk notches when said plate is in a normal position, and means for imparting a rapid rectilinear motion to the longer plate whereby a teetotum is revolved about its axis on and along the shorter fixed plate and released after having cleared the latter plate, and whereby another teetotum is automati' cally fed to the spinning devices as soon as the movable plate is returned to its normal position.
2. A toy for spinning teetotums, comprising a revoluble disk provided with peripheral slots or notches for the lower half of the spindle or pin of the teetotums, a support for said disk provided with a suitable handle,spinning devices consisting of parallel plates of unequal length between which the upper half of the teetotum pin fits, the longer plate provided with a vertical slot in the plane of rotation of the notches in the disk when said plate is in a normal position, a spring for imparting motion to said longer plate, a detent pivotally connected with the last named plate, a lever adapted to engage the detent and move the same against the stress of the spring, a trigger adapted to impart motion to said lever, and a releasing device for releasing the detent from engagement with the lever, for the purpose set forth.
3. A toy for spinning teetotums constructed in the form of a revolver provided with a bar rel composed of a fixed and a movable section having fiat proximate parallel faces and adapted to receive between them the upper half of a teetotum pin, and with a cylinder adapted to hold a number of teetotums in an upright position and feed them successively to the barrel, in combination with a trigger controlled spring adapted to project the mov able section of the barrel outwardly, for the purpose set forth.
4. A toy for spinning teetotums, constructed in the form of a revolver provided with a vertical cylinder havinga vertical peripheral slot 1 and a revoluble head having peripheral notches for the reception of the lower half of the teetotum pins, the barrel of said revolver constructed of a fixed and a movable section of unequal length having proximate parallel faces adapted to receive between them the upper half of a teetotum pin, the longer movable section provided with a slot in line with IIO the circle described by the peripheral notches of the cylinder head when said section is in a normal position, in combination with a trigger controlled spring adapted to project the longer movable section of the barrel outwardly, for the purpose set forth.
5. A toy for spin nin g teetotu ms, comprising a stock, a cylinder secured thereto and havinga revoluble head provided With peripheral notches for the reception of the lower portion of the teetotum pins, said cylinder provided with a vertical slot q, spinning devices comprising parallel plates of unequal length between which the upper portion of the teetotum pin fits, the longer plate provided with a vertical slot in the plane of rotation of the notches in the cylinder head when said plate is in a normal position, and with a rearwardly projecting pin having bearing in an arm of the stock, a coiled spring on said pin, a detent pivotally connected with said longer plate, a lever and a trigger pivotally connected with the stock, said lever adapted to "engage the detent, and said trigger adapted to vibrate the lever, and a releasing device adapted to disengage the detent from the lever, for the purpose set forth.

7. In combination, the barrel b provided with the vertical slot q, the spring-actuated revoluble head k of said barrel, provided with peripheral notches m, the fixed plate w provided with a stop or abutment block w, and the spring actuated movable plate 01 provided with a vertical slot in the plane of rotation of the notches in the barrel head when said plate is in a normal position, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
8. In combination, the stock A, the barrel 1) provided with a revoluble head, the fixed and mo vable plates d and 'w, and the axial bolt or pin e of said barrel having its upper end 6 slotted to form a guide for the plate d, and a support for the plate w, said bolt serving as an axis of rotationfor the revoluble barrel head and as a means for securing the barrel to the stock, substantially as described.
