SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 529,518, dated November 20, 1 894.
Serial No. 488,913. (No model.)
To @ZZ whom, t may concern:
Beit known that we, WASHINGTON B. CLICK and ISAAC A. CLICK, citizens of the United States, residing at Sherman, in the county of Grayson and State of Texas, have invented new and useful Improvements in Quilting Attachments for Sewing-Machines, of which the following is a specication.
The invention relates to improvements in ro quilting attachments for sewing machines.
The object of the present invention is to improve the construction of quilting attachments for sewing machines, and to provide a simple and inexpensive one, which Will be x 5 capable of lateral vibrations, longitudinal movement, and a rotary motion, in order that any form of design may be Worked.
The invention consists in the construction and novel combination and arrangement of zo parts hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings and pointed out in the claim hereto appended.
In the drawings-Figure 1 is a perspective view of a quilting attachment for sewing ma- 25 chines constructed in accordance with this invention. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal sectional view. Fig. 3 is a transverse sectional view.
Like numerals of reference indicate correspending parts in all the figures of the drawings.
1 designates a quilting frame, composed of end bars 2 and longitudinal rollers 3 and 4 arranged at the sides of the quilting frame and at an intermediate point. The side rollers 3 are journaled in bearing slots 5 of the end bars, and each of said rollers is provided with a ratchet for securing it at any desired adjustment consisting of an annular series of loops 6 carried by the roller and a hook 7 4o arranged on the adjacent end bar for engaging the loops or eyes 6.
The quilting frame is provided with a longitudinal beam or top bar 8, which has its ends connected with the end pieces 2 by ver- 4 5 tical rods 9 having threaded end portions receiving nuts 10 and 11 arranged above and below the top bar S and the end bars 2, and securing the parts rigidly together at the desired adjustment.
5o The top bar of the quilting frame is adj ustably connected by a horizontal transverse bar 12 with a triangular hanger frame 13, which is provided at its top with rollers 14 to run on a longitudinal track 15, and which is provided at its bottom apex with a block 16 piv- 55 otally connected by a vertical bolt 17 with the one end of the adjustable bar 12. The adjustable baror arm 12 of the hanger frame is provided with a series of perforations 18 adapted to receive a bolt 19 in order that the 6o quilting frame may be adjusted to and from the pivot block 16 to regulate the rotary movement of the quilting frame and the Weight of the same.
The triangular hanger frame 13 is perpendicular and the front face of the track 15 is beveled. The track is slightly inclined to enable the feed of the quilting frame to be automatic, and itis provided at its ends with vertical bars 19', Which are strengthened by 7o braces 20, and which are adj ustably connected to supporting bars 21. The supporting bars 21 are secured at their upper ends by hinges 22 to a ceiling or other suitable support; and the adjustment of the vertical supporting bars 21 and the vertical bars 19 of the track is obtained by means of perforations and bolts or screws. The hinges 22 permit the quilting attachment frame to have a distinct lateral movement. The track is constructed 8o of two sections having their adjacent ends connected by a screw 24E, which enables the track to be readily separated when desired for packing and shipping.
It Will be seen that the quilting machine is simple and comparativelyinexpensive in construction, that it is capable of permitting its quilting frame to move laterally and longitudinally, and that the quilting frame also hasacircularand a pivotal movement in order 9o to produce a curvilinear movement, so that any form of design may be Worked. The hanger frame is maintained perpendicular, and the quilting attachment frame is held in operative position by the operator; and it will be readily apparent that the quilting attachment will readily respond to the movements of the operator. It will also be apparent that the quilting frame is self-feeding owing to the inclination of the track, that the loo parts may be readily adjusted to bring the quilting frame in the desired position7 and that the quilting attachment Afor, sewing machin'es may be readily taken apart for storing or shipping.
Changes in the form, proportion and the minor details of construction may be resorted to without departingn from Ythe principle or sacricing any of the advantages of this invention.
What we claim is- In a quilting attachment for sewing machines, the combination of a laterally swinging track, a depending` hanger provided at its top with rollers and having at its bottom the block 16, a horizontally disposed laterally extended bar projecting from the bottom of the' block and provided with a series of perforation's, a quilting fram and vertical bolts passing through perforations of the bar and adjustably pivoting the latter to the block and to the quilting frame, whereby the latter is permitted a pivotaland a curvilinear movement, substantially as described.
In' testimony that We claim the foregoing as our own we have hereto affixed our sig natures in the presence of two witnesses. p
