Description

TATES UN iiE JOHN ZORN AND FERDINAND G.
LUcHEsi, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
PACKING COMPOUND FOR THE RMOCA UTERS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 529,056, dated November 13, 1 894.
Application filed August 22. 1 s94. Serial No. 521,027. (No specimens.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that we, JOHN ZORN and FER- DINAND G. LUOHESI, both citizens of the United States, residing at the city of New York, in the county 0t New York and State of New York, have jointly invented a new and useful Composition of Matter, of which the following is a specification.
The nature and object of the invention will be fully understood from the following general description, and subsequently pointed out in the claim.
In carrying out our invention we take of magnesia about four parts, and of gum ben-. z oin about one part. These we mixin a mass in any convenient and well known Way.
To use our invention, the said mass is packed into the reservoir of a thermo cauter, an inhaler or other similar apparatus so as to form a porous, non explosive, absorbent packing for such reservoir. The apparatus so packed with our newly invented compound, is then used in the common and well known way.
The advantages of the use of this composition in lieu of those heretofore employed are that this mixture is absolutely inexplosive, and further the action is conducive to more thorough mixture of the air and vapor to form the combustible gas to be burned. It is believed to be an appreciable improvement, over the old packings of fibrous material such as sponge, or cotton or the like. The benzoln prevents the fine dust from being blown into the combustion chamber.
\Vhat we claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The composition of matter hereinbefore set forth for packing thermo-cauters and the like, consisting substantially of about four parts of magnesia and about one part of gum benzoin, substantially as set forth.
In testimony that we claim the foregoing as our invention we have hereto set our hands,
in the presence of two witnesses, this 12th 5 day of June, 1894:.
JOHN ZORN. FERDINAND G. LUCI-IESI.
