UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
OLIVER WILLIAM KETOHUM, TORONTO, CANADA.
PU LLEY.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 527,065, dated October 9, 1894.
Application filed January 19,1 893. Renewed March 9, 1894- Serial No. 503,066- (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, OLIVER WILLIAM KETOHUM, of the city of Toronto, in the county of York, in the Province of Ontario, Canada, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Pulleys or Wheels, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in pulleys or wheels and the object of the invention is to provide a strong, light and cheaply constructed pulley and it consists essentially of forming the rim and web in one integral section and connecting the Web to the hub in the manner hereinafter more particularly explained. Y
The figure is a sectional perspective view of a split pulley constructed in accordance with my invention.
The pulley comprises the rim sections A,and supporting webs B formed integrally therewith and mounted upon the hub sections 0, which are provided with an annular flange c to which the inner portion of the web is bolted or riveted by rivets c. In order to strengthen the web a series of corrugations b are provided which may be concentric as shown, or may be formed radially or in any similar manner. As will be observed the rim sections are formed integrally with the webs and are supported entirely by one edge, and in order to strengthen the other edge it is turned over to form a bead a. Inserted within the bead a, at the joint is a short length of wire D, which,
as will be shown by the dotted and full lines,
projects a slight distance into the bead of the rim sections on each side of the joint. By this means the bead is stiffened and prevented from getting outof line at the joints. To further strengthen the rim at the joints I have provided the strips a, a, secured to the inside of the rim, one on each side of the joint and with their free ends pointing in opposite directions. These strips insure the alignment of the sections when they are put together and serve to strengthen the rim at the joint and prevent it from being bent or indented.
What I claim as my invention is- A split pulley comprising an integral web and rim, the latter having a beaded edge, a hub having a flange secured to the web, and means for making a firm connection at the joint of the split rim portions, said means consisting of a wire D contained within the bead of the rim and bridging the split, substantially as described.
