All these ingredients I put in a halfgallon of Bourbon whisky and allow it to remain in a warm place for the space of four'weeks, only giving it an occasional stirring. Then I draw the liquor off, and it is ready for use.

IMPROVED MEDICAL COMPOUND.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 52,530, dated February 13, 1866.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, WILLIAM GAWEIN, of Louisville, in the county of Jefferson and State of Kentucky, have invented a new and Improved Medical Oom pound; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to fully understand and make use of the same.
This invention relates to a compound which will speedily and safely cure diseases arising from a disturbance of the stomach, such as chronic and camp diarrhea, bloody flux, dysentery, summer-complaint, camp-colic, choleramorbus, pain in the stomach and bowels, dyspepsia, piles, weakness, dizziness, and general debility.
My compound is made of the following ingredients, which are mixed together in about the proportion hereinafter stated: elixir theriac, one and one-third dram; aloes, two drams; radix rhei, two drains bole armenian, one and one-third dram; radix tormentilla, thirty grains; radix gentianae, thirty grains; radix angelicze, thirty grains; radix zedoriae, forty grains; radix dictamus, thirty grains; gumcaniphor, thirty grains saffron, thirty grains castoreum, ten grains; gum-myrrhaa, twenty grains; agaricus albus, twenty grains. By combining the various ingredients as above stated a mixture is obtained which will speedily and safely cure all the diseases above specified, and also heal inflammation of the bowels and stomach arising therefrom.
I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent A compound produced by mixing the abovenamed ingredients together about in the proportion and substantially in the manner specified.
