GUARD FOR GLOBES OF EL EcTRlc LIGHTS oR LAMPS.-
SPECIFIGATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 524,168, dated August' 7,1-894. Application tiled February 10, 1894. Serial No. 499,700. (No model.)
*To all Vwhom it may concern..-
Beit known that I, JOHN C. GALSTER, a citizenv of the United States,residing in the city and county of Philadelphia, State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Guards .for Globes of Electric Lights or Lamps, which improvement isfully set forth in the following specification and accompanying drawings. Y
Myinvention consists of a guard for the sections as hereinafter described which permit access to the light or lamp Without removal of the guard therefrom. f
Figure l represents a perspective view of guard embodying my invention.' Fig. 2 represents a vertical section of the upper part thereof. Fig. 3 represents a perspective View of another form of connecting the'guard with the socket:
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in the several gures.
Referring to the drawings-z A designates a guard for the globe of an electric light, the same consisting of sections B and C of wirenetting or open work, which are connected by the hinge D and adapted to be held together i d 4s in the closed condition of the globe by the catch E, it being noticed that-the sections have on their inner ends the rims F, to which the parts of the hinge Dare attached, and one of said rims having the c/atch'E fastened to it, so that the nose thereof may engage with the opposite rim. lAtthedtop of the upper 'section is the rim G, towhich the meshesl of said section are secured, said rim being also engaged bythescrewsH of the collar J of the socket K, vwhereby the guard is retained on the socket, it being seen that the light or lamp is well guarded or protected, and access may be had to the same by releasing the catch E, in which case, the-lower section opens, while remaining connected With the upper section and the latter is not detached from thesocket.
In order to strengthen the catch, and the attachment of the same to the section B, the pieces L thereof are fastened to the meshes of the section, and have their upper ends formed into eyes M, which embrace the rim G.
i. 5o The pieces N of the hinge are fastened to p the meshes of the section B, and "have their ing the latterand firmly securing the catch and hinge thereto. y i The rims F abut when the section C is closed, and serve to strengthen both sections;
at what may be termed the bulge or swell of the guard. Y
In Fig. 3, I show the upper'rirn G with eyes M on the'ends thereof, fitted to which latter i is ascrew H', by which provision the guard is attached to the socket K without theemplo'ymeut of a`collar J.
.` Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and'desire to secure by Letters Patent, isl f I l. A guard for the purpose set forth, formed of sections ofopen work, a hinge connecting the same, and a catch attached to one section andadapted to engage with. the other section, said hinge having strengthening pieces connected with the topof the upper section substantially as described.
2. A guard for the purpose set forth consisting-of sections of open work,'a hinge con- .Y necting the said sections, and a strengthening piece for saidhinge connected with one of said sections, said sections having abutting rims, substantially as described.
3. A guard for the purpose set forth, formed of sections connected by ahinge and provided with a catch, said hinge having pieces ,N continuous of the knuckle thereof, and attached to the top riin of the upper section, said parts being combined substantially'v as described.
4. A guard for the purpose setforth, formed of sections connected bya hinge and provided with a catch, the latter having pieces L continuous of 'the nose thereof, attached vto the top rim of the upper section, said parts being combinedsubstantially as described.
JOHN C. GALSTER.
