ADJ USTABLE lNCANDESCENT-LAMP HOLDER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 523,482, dated July 24, 1894. Application filed August 17,1893. Serial No. 483,367. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, SAMUEL E. NUTTING, a citizen of the United States, residing at Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Devices for Adjusting Electric Lamps and the Like, of which the following is a description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification.
The object of my invention is to produce a simple and effective device for the proper adjustment of incandescentlights, especially when suspended by means of a cord.
Referring to the drawings, Figure l is a perspective view of my device shown in connection with an ordinary incandescent lamp suspended by means of a cord; Fig. 2 a full sized central section of the adjusting device, showing the operative parts. Fig. 3 is a plan view of the block B. Fig. 4 is an enlarged central section of the ball 0 showing the slot 0 for the reception of the cord D.

A is the hanger or upper portion secured to the ceiling or wall, B the depending portion and its relative parts, and C the rod mounted therein. In order to secure a long and close bearing for the swivel I have screwed into the hanger A a piece of tube A. Upon the depending portion B is turned the arbor B; this passes through the tube A, closely fitting the same, and is headed or riveted over the washer B placed Within the hanger A and on the arbor B. This allows of a perfect swiveled action of the depending portion B.
The depending portion B is provided with two depending parallel arms B. J ournaled between and near lower ends. of the arms B I is the block 13*, having the journal bearings B formed on either side through the block B is drilled the hole B (Fig. 3) through which loosely passes the rod 0. Theoperation of my invention is easily tal adjustment it is only necessary to turnthe swiveled portion in any direction required. A certain amount of vertical adjustment is obtained by merely drawing the cord through the ball 0 This in itself is a common and well known method of adjustment, and is not claimed, except in combination with my special device.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, isv 1. A device for adjusting incandescent lamps and the like, consisting of a depending swiveled hanger portion, having depending arms and a quadrant, a fulcrum-block provided with a central opening and journal bearings, and a rod fulcrumed in a journaledblock and adapted to move freely through the same, all substantially as shown.
2. In a device for adjusting incandescent lamps and the like, the combination ofthe hanger A, the depending portion B swiveled therein, said lower portion being provided with the quadrant B? having notches'on its under side, said depending portion being provided with two parallel depending arms, the pivoted block B, the rod 0, spring 0 all operating substantially as set forth and shown.

In a device for adjusting incandescent lamps and the like, the' combination of the hanger A having the tube A screwed therein, the lower or depending portion B having the arbor B working closely in the tube A, the depending arms B B, the pivoted block E the quadrant B provided' with the notches on its under surface, the rod 0, spring 0 ball G and depending cord B, all operating substantially as shown.
