Description

'(No Model.)
G. D. R. AIKEN. PRACTICE CARTRIDGE.
No. 517.719. Patented Apr. 3, 1894.
" nrrnn STATES GEORGE I). R. AIKIN, OF LOUISVILLE, KENTUCKY.
PRACTICE-CARTRIDG E.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No.
517,719, dated April 3, 1894,
' Application filed August 19, 1893. Serial No. 483,504. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GEORGE D. R. AIKIN, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Louisville, in the county of Jefferson and State of Zentncky, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Cartridges; and I do declare'the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being bad to the accompanying drawings, and to letters marked thereon, "which fo m a part of thisspecifinatinnr Figure I is an enlarged view of cartridge. Fig. 2 is a similar view in section. Fig. 3 is a similar view of modification, in section.
This invention has relation to certain new and useful improvements in cartridges, and it consists in the novel construction and com- 30 of rifie cartridges, both center and rim fire,
of paper, metal, or composition, and of all.
calibers. 4 I
In carrying out ,my invention I make the cartridges their full usual length and of the. 35 ordinary exterior form btit instead of l leing bination of parts, all as hereinafter described chambered their full depth in the ordin ry manner, the cartridge is made solid from the base for a considerable portion of its length bore a, communicating with the cap seat or cap tube. By this construction it will be seen that the chamber B for the charge is made shallow, and it is intended to make the solid portion of greater or less tridges may be provided with charges varying from three-fourths to one-tenth of the usual charge. lhe bottom of the chamber B is .preferablynnade concave.
of the cartridge may be cast or formed integral with the shell or the base in the process of manufacture.
Having thus described my invention, what I believe to be new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
As a new article of manufacture, a cartridge shell or blank of the usual length, and formed of a single piece of metal, the internal solid portion thereof extending a portion of its length, whereby the explosive chamber of the shell or blank is reduced in length, and a small longitudinal bore or passage through said solid internal portion and communicating with the cap or anvil seat, substantially as specified.
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
