CENTERlNG-GAGE FOR STAMPING-MACHINES.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 516,432, dated March 13, 1894. Application filed July 28, 1892. Serial No. 441535. (No model.) I
v To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that 1, JOHN T.DUFF, a citizen of the United States, residingat Pittsburg, in the county of Allegheny and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Centering-Gages for Stamping-Machinesand the Like, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings.
This invention relates to-certain new and useful improvements in centering gages for pressing machines and the like, and has for its object to provide a device of this character of a simple and inexpensive construction by means of which the blanks to be operated upon may be quickly and easily adjusted to the proper position for operation.
My invention will be hereinafter fully described and its novel features carefully defined in the claims.
In the accompanying drawings which serve to illustrate my invention :Figure 1 is a plan view of the device and Fig. 2 is a side view thereof.
In the views 1 represents the table or bed plate and 6 the lower die of the pressing or other machine, which parts may be of any desired construction. Mounted in guides 4 arranged under the bed plate 1 is a slide piece or block 2 having at one end an operating handle 5 its other end being bent up at right dotted lines in Fig. 2 at 2 angles as seen in and provided with a retracting spring 3 (see Fig. 1). The upper end of the angular portion 2 of the slide piece or block 2 is provided with a gage 7 having a semicircular form with its opposite ends or arms projecting toward the die 6 in substantially the same plane with the upper face thereof, as clearly shown in the drawings. This gage 7 has a recessed upper surface or edge adapted to receive the sheet metal blank to be operated on and to form a rest therefor. By this construction it will be seen that the sheet metal blanks may be laid on the die with their edges touching the opposite curved arms of the gage 7 and accurately centered thereby.
Having thus described my invention, I claim- 1. In a centering device, the combination with the lower die, of the curved gage slidingly mounted adjacent to said die and means for moving the same toward orfrom said die, substantially as set forth.
2. In a centering device, the combination with the frame having-a lower die and a slideway adjacent thereto, of a slide mounted in said slide way and provided at one end with a curved gage and at its opposite end with an operating handle substantially as set forth.
