BOTTLE-CASE.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 516,218, dated March 13, 1894.

Be it known that I, JACOB H. NELLIs, of Canajoharie, in the county of Montgomery and State of New York, have invented certain new and usefullmprovements in Bottle-Cases; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it pertains to make and use it, reference beinghadtotheaccompanying drawings, which form part of this specification.

My invention relates to an improvement in bottle cases, and it consists in the novel manner hereinafter fully described, of holding bottles in cells provided for their reception, and also in the novel manner in which the same may be arranged for the purposes of display and use.

My invention is especially directed to the provision of a bottle case which will be very simple in construction and inexpensive, in which bottles may be placed and locked, thereby most eiectually protecting them while being shipped or transported, and which also provides for their display and use.

Referring to the accompanying drawings Figure l, is a vertical longitudinal sectional view of my improved bottle case. Fig. 2, is a plan view of the same.

A designates a block of wood, hard rubber or any other preferred material having sunken therein the cells or cavities B, which are suficiently deep to confine bottles C. The block A is bored in a line extending over the shoulders B of bottles C, and removably located in the cavity thus formed is the locking pin E, which extends transversely over the shoulders of the said bottles, and thereby confine them securely Within the cells from which it is impossible for them to drop even though the block A, is inverted. allowed to rest thereon, as shown in dotted lines in Fig. l. I am thereby enabled to arrange them in such a manner as to secure a most effectual display of the bottled goods if I so desire, and bringtheminto position to use.

It is evident that my improved locking device may be used in connection with package cases or cells formed other than of solid blocks of material and also that any desired number may be arranged in a series without departing from the spirit of my invention.

Myimproved case here shown and described is most simple and cheap, and by its use the bottles are most effectually protected from such exposure as would be liable, without the case, to cause breakage.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-

1. The combination with a case formed with one or more cavities arranged vertically and a transverse cavity in the case side communicatin g with said vertical cavities, bottles adapted to rest in said vertical cavities and a locking pin adapted to be confined in the transverse cavity and which passes over the bottles, substantially as shown and described.

2. An improved bottle case consisting of a solid block of material having cavities, or cells formed therein, a longitudinal cavity formed through the case which extends transversely across one side of the cells or cavities, shouldered bottles adapted to fit Within the cavities, and a locking pin extending-through said longitudinal cavity and over the shoulders of the bottles, substantially as shown and described.
